"We really did some nice things, but we played so poorly on Monday night (53-86 loss at OSU) that you have to be embarrassed a little bit by that. I always talk about how I think our clubs will bounce back, and we did it today. We also caught Kansas State on a day when things weren't going very well for them.

"I was really pleased with our club. I thought Nick Collison on the backboards in the first half was sensational. Jeff Boschee's gone through a long period of time here where he hadn't shot the ball very well, and I think he came back alive today and put the ball in the basket for us. We got a great lift in the first half from Jeff Carey and Ashante Johnson off the bench. Eric Chenowith didn't score, but I thought he was sensational defensively. We had him with four blocks at the half, even though the official stat sheet only had him for one. He struggled on the offensive end, but still competed and tried to do the job defensively.

"We went to a smaller lineup today partially because of Nick Bradford's problem with his foot (a turf toe type injury). I think that helped us, and we've been going to a little bit more of that lately. Perhaps we have more fire power, but right now we're really concerned about Kirk because his hand doesn't look good (unspecified injury suffered late in the game).

"They made the first shot, and I was beginning to wonder because the opening tap Kenny Gregory could have gotten the ball, but let it go out of bounds. I always say, if you can get it, get it. Don't let depend on the referee. He depended on the referee, and it was Kansas State's ball, so I didn't like that start. But after that, we really did some nice things.

"The only thing that was negative is that it's hard to maintain that for a second 20 minutes. Oklahoma State did it to us on Monday night. But the way we handled the ball in the second half wasn't very good. There were a lot of careless turnovers; the kind of turnovers you can't make in a close basketball game.

"I congratulated Terry and Nick (Bradford) in the locker room because they were 4-0, and Ashante was 2-0 (in Bramlage). I've said many times, I don't understand it. I'm not trying to understand it. I know that some day it's going to end, and every year I just tell the kids let's put it off for one more year.

"I thought the defensive end of the floor in the first half was really good. Our shot selection was good, but we weren't making very many of them. But we were so active on the backboards, we had a couple of flurries in the first half that were sensational on the backboards. And defensively, I thought we did a much better job in the first half than we did in the second. Most of their shots were challenged. Some of their jump shooters, Morrison and Groves, we were able to get up in their face and make them not have very good looks at it. And Tony Kitt wasn't the presence in the first half that he was in the second. In the second half, I think he worked on us a little bit.

"One of the kids came up and told me (that the K-State fans were leaving early) during a timeout there at the end of the game. It is something I always get great pleasure out of. Going to somebody else's place and quieting the crowd and playing well. We haven't done that very often this year, so this one felt pretty good here today."
