Roy Williams - "It was a workmanlike effort by our basketball team. I thought Jacque was sensational, and Sean Pearson, for the minutes he played, was really productive. Billy (Thomas) came in and gave us some moments. Paul (Pierce) did some good things for us. Scot (Pollard) and Raef (LaFrentz) inside. It was really something you could talk about a lot of people, and what it means is that Kansas beat Rice.

"Thirteen assists ties Jacque's career high. He really was sensational, particularly in the first half. We didn't knock in any free throws the whole game. If we'd have hit some free throws that would have helped, but at the same time Rice didn't shoot the free throws very well, either.

"The last couple of days we've worked against the zone, and I don't mind playing against the zone. We didn't make every shot, and I'd like us to do that. But in the first half we shot 15 threes and hit five of 'em, so that means we made one point for every possession, which I like to have at the offensive end. We shot a decent percentage in the second half. The only things offensively, we didn't do a good job getting to the offensive boards, but it is more difficult to box out when you're in a zone.

"Our kids showed poise. We got off to a good start and never really let the crowd get into it, and we had some Jayhawk fans out there. And I've said before, I like playing on the road."

Rice coach Willis Wilson - "There's no easier shot in basketball than a free shot on a free throw. If you don't make your free shots, you don't win, and that's the bottom line. The difference between us and Kansas is, if we make our free throws, then who knows what Kansas does with their shots?

"We found out what it is like to play the #1 team in the country. Kansas plays as hard defense as I've ever seen any team do. They're very reminiscent of a Bobby Knight-coached team. I thought our team did a nice job handling the pressure."
