Roy Williams - "They really are an outstanding club. I feel for their club and especially for Dedric. His hamstring was really bothering him, and that was the reason he didn't play in the second half. You like to play Iowa State without him, because he is so good. But yet their kids are such tough individual kids that I thought they really banded together out there and really fought us as hard as it can possibly be. I'm sure I would have been more concerned about Willoughby's outside shot if he was in there, but those other kids that did play, they're just tough kids.

"Both teams are really good defensively. both teams really pride themselves on their whole philosphy being built on the defensive end. We're giving up 38% coming in. They're giving up 38%. Yet this game is 52% for them and 56% for us. I think they made their first eight or nine shots, and that's something you don't count on on your own home court. But I told our kids, let's just try to upgrade the defense a little big. And the last eight to 10 minutes of the first half I thought we really were good defensively. Then early in the second half I thought we were good defensively, but later on we sort of slacked off again, and they kept getting straight drives to the basket, pitching out for three. We really tried to concentrate on Pratt and Willoughby.

"They really pride themselves on not commiting fouls and trying to get to the free throw line more than the other team. Our philosophy when we play them is that's our number one concern. One of the three things I wrote up on the board, and I've done it everytime we've played since Tim has been there was 'No unnecessary fouls,' and 'Let's get to the free throw line ourselves.' We want to try to attack from the inside.

"I told our team that run we had in the middle of the second half with Billy's two three, T.J.'s basket, Ryan made great decisions two or three times on the break, got Raef that big dunk, I thought those were really important parts of the basketball game. That really gave us the margin. It went from about 10 to about 15 or 16. then we got a little stupid for awhile on our press offense and let them get it back down.

"Scot Pollard is one tough sucker. Last night he could barely run. His ankel is the ugliest thing you could possibly see. It's still swollen. He got a treatment last night. He got three treatments today, went home after class and iced it himself. He really toughed it out out there tonight, and I thought he was very important to us.

"He had alredy told me he wanted to play, and I told him if he couldn't warmup properly I wasn't going to play him because it wasn't that important. I wanted to make sure he really felt he could be effective. If he couldn't be effective, I'm not going to have a guy out there limping around, because if you do that you cause an ankle injury to linger on."

ISU coach Tim Floyd - "(Kansas) had eight offensive rebounds in the first half, and all of them were converted to baskets. I'd like to have that first half back and some of those rebound baskets. Those second-chance cheap points were the difference in the game.

"(Willoughby) just couldn't push off at all. he re-aggravated it Saturday, and it was a little tight yesterdya morning. I'm trying to be optimistic about it. I'm hoping it's not torn. The trainer will look at it tomorrow."
