Roy Williams - "We got quite a few things out of (this game) to be honest. I asked the guys, 'Would you rather play a game or have a two and a half hour practice?' They all chose to play a game. I said, 'Well, let's attack that with the same intensity regardless of who the opponent is.' I'm honest with them. I told them we were more gifted than Brown, and I really wanted us to try a lot of things we've been working on. We got to play our 1-3-1 more today than we have been. We got to play our zone more than we have been, and I think those two defenses are really going to be important to us. At the same time I loved our unselfishness, and I loved our work ethic out there, regardless what the score was. I really thought our kids were into it both halves.

"I was about to get mad at (Thomas) because I wanted him to make one more. I knew he'd never gotten into the 20s. I think 19 had been his previous high, and I wanted him to get 20. He was really important to us in the first half. He's having a great start to this year. Last year he didn't do the things he wanted to do or I wanted him to do, but he's doing some good things this year.

"I like the way we all played. You look at the minutes played and nobody played over 24 minutes, so we got a lot of guys a lot of action. and I think we did some things that will help us down the line.

"Early T.J. was playing real well on the defensive end and was struggling offensively. B.J. was doing the same thing. Now the last five or six games, T.J.'s really come alive and been a big help to us on both ends of the court. Now we've got to get B.J. going a little bit on offense.

"I wanted to get Jacque a few more minutes, and he played 23:35, which is more than anybody else. And I still wanted to make sure Ryan Robertson got plenty of time because he's been so important to us. We're going to slide Billy down and play him some three at times. But I liked our focus. I liked everything about us. Our rebounding I thought was sharp, and Scot was a little more active inside than he's been the last few games. It was a fun game.

"Jacque had some chances to do some things, and I think with more playing time and more practice time he's going to get better. I think a lot of times what he wants to do is a half a step slow or a half a step behind what he would have done if he hadn't been out for such a long time. So each and every possession we can get him out on the court, I think that brings his mind and his body closer to getting on the same page.

"We travel over to Kansas State Saturday night when they're upset at themselves and mad. I wish they'd played somebody else between Xavier and us, but they didn't. And we've got to go over there and be focused. We're anxious to get started in conference play. We're tired of playing all these people who we don't get to talk to or talk at as much. And I think it's a little more incentive this year with the Big 12 being different, and people like to try different things."
