Turns out that KU never offered Isaiah Moss.

It seems that with Jim Beilein leaving Michigan for the Cleveland Cavaliers talk is that Michigan recruit Jalen Wilson is thinking about asking out of his LOI and may want to join his good friend RJ Hampton, whom just about every recruiting guru is now picking to choose Kansas.

Speculation is that is why KU did not offer Moss. Self intends to land Wilson.

Rumor control out.

From here on out anyone who commits to KU but has not yet signed can always change their mind.

Also today, RJ Hampton's bestie Jalen Wilson (6-8/210 Rivals #47 4* SF) opted to reopen his recruiting with the departure of Jim Beilein for the Cavaliers. Hope KU can land them both!

The summary Origin Post has been updated to reflect this news.

Yep. As I understand it from the beginning Self & Co have talked with RJ about playing with Dotson, whom they anticipate coming back, and RJ has liked the idea, especially with the success of the FM&DG years to draw on.

Also as I understand it all of the other schools on his list have excellent PGs returning or coming in, so having Dotson return should not be a negative, and arguably would be a positive since he will be one of the top PGs in the nation next year -> more team success -> more opportunities for RJ to shine. (Q had lots of them and failed to deliver, no fault on DD). RJ would be PG when Dotson sits and when they play together he gets to focus on all the other parts of his game, which he should excel at (I just cannot picture him being another “OAD no-show” like Q).

Finally I have seen nothing published in the media recently about RJ having to play the point. I have seen lots of message board talk from fans citing this and that, but nothing they cite is current.

It is of note that at present:

247Sports guru predictions are 75% Kansas and no more than 6% for any other program. 247 big wigs Jerry Meyer and Evan Daniels recently picked KU, as did UK related Chris Fisher.

Rivals FutureCast is also 75% for KU, with nation recruiting big wigs Eric Bossi and Corey Evans leading the pack, which includes Memphis related analyst Isaac Simpson switching to KU from Texas Tech (who brought on ESPN’s #8 grad transfer VaTech SG Chris Clarke after getting TJ Holyfield).

With BFF Wilson reopening his recruiting and TTBOMK no other competition currently having more than 1 ride left for next year, it seems like a match made in hoops heaven for RJ and Jalen to choose KU.

Fingers crossed.

In case this article is not open to non-members, the author talks with Rivals reps from the 4 programs RJ is considering - KU, TT, Memphis and kensucky.

All 4 think KU is the favorite.

The article was published about 2 hours ago.

Fingers crossed.

Tim Jankovich’s son Michael, a 6-5/195 SG from Dallas is walking on for this fall.
No ratings from Rivals, 247 or ESPN. Verbal Commits says 2*.

Next up:

Short range - Jalen Wilson's visit this weekend

Medium range - Grad transfers for SG? SF?

Longer range - awaiting news if N'Faly Dante and/or Kyree Walker will reclassify after this summer is over and come on up (Dante from Wichita) and over (Walker from Phoenix) to ol' KU!

The Max Preps site says Kyree is 6'6", 205

55/117 3 pointers last year for 47%
53% overall FG percentage
77% from FT line
5.9 APG
11.0 RPG
3.4 SPG

www.maxpreps.com/athlete/kyree-walker/UK...basketball-stats.htm

Big question — how much of his superiority is based strictly on his physical advantages over most high schoolers (and how do those physical advantages translate to the next level), and how much is reflective of his actual basketball skills?

Still, the trey and FT % should translate well to the next level, so that’s a big +.

Looking at the linked analysis the two best SG GTs remaining are:

2. Jaevin Cumberland
4. Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey

With 3 rides left and needing outside shooters would love to get one or both. If just the one, prefer Cumberland because of his slightly better record and - totally unrelated to his hoops skills - his last name (same as my father’s hometown of Cumberland, MD).

I know, I know...:P

The Jalen Wilson visit is underway, no word on it as yet.

Also no word on the Net about graduate transfer trey shooting SGs Jaevin Cumberland or Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey, or any other perimeter guys that can shoot well from 3.

Only new word I've found as Friday evening closes in is Shay Wildeboor's report that KU will be getting a visit from a new big man.
Rivals 3* PF Josaphat Bilau (6-110/235) from France.
Currently has offers from Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kansas State and Penn State.
GTech article on Bilau

More info as I find it.

Have a great weekend!

This Bedore article states his short list includes KU, Wake Forest, WVU, Georgia, Nevada and Pitt.

I like our chances for this young man.

Been in the US 2 years, has played hoops for 5, hasn’t had a lot of visibility on the national recruiting scene.

Reportedly fast, rebounds, has hands, handles, passes well and can shoot from 3.

Found this commentary on the ranking system, Issac McBride and Josaphat Bilau on the JayhawkSlant hoops forum (link) and wanted to share it here. The more I read about Bilau, the more I like him and hope he likes KU so much he wants to play here... assuming Self & Co also think well of him.

Only downside I see so far is that Bilau aspires to be OAD and he’s just not going to get much chance of that at KU with Dok, Silvio, Big Dave and Tristan — and let’s not forget Mitch — all looking to spend significant time in the frontcourt next season. Hopefully he’ll like the challenge and the chance to hone his skills with a program and coach known for sending bigs to the NBA. And I would not mind at all being surprised if he turned out to be as good as he thinks he is and earned his way into significant PT.

kufan_22 wrote: The ranking system is all about being at events that talent evaluators are at. There are so many AAU events and teams that some of these kids just do not get evaluated as much as others. I truly believe that is the case for Issac McBride. I think it is the case with this kid as well. He hasn’t been seen nearly as much cause he simply hasn’t been over here since he was 12 playing (for) a huge AAU team. People have to get over the ranking by their name and learn to look for qualities themselves. This kid has a very very high ceiling and that’s pretty obvious. Not many 6'11" kids can simply move as fluidly as this kid.....that’s a start. Then he handles the ball in the drills like a guard with both hands. His shot is pretty fundamentally sound and soft....nothing like say Dok. The kid has a ton of potential and seems to have a good work ethic. It’s a no brainer to me.

Jaevin Cumberland chooses Cincinnati

Leaves Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey as the best trey shooting SG in the GT ranks.
Still nothing on KU considering him.

Rides open: 3

Waiting on
Jalen Wilson decision, indications are next week after finishing his visits (tarred ones next, plus in-home with Michigan's Howard)
Josaphat Bilau to visit? He wants to, does KU want him to?
Kyree Walker to reclassify after this summer.

I really hope Fitzpatrick-Dorsey is still available if Wilson doesn't say yes to the Jayhawks.

One door closes, another door opens... perhaps an even better one?

Rothstein finishes with "Long line for this one."

SG ANTHONY MATHIS (6-3/175) of UNM Lobos (from Oregon, may be looking at home?)
AY2018-19
GP/S 32/21, MPG 30.8
PPG 14.4, RPG 2.2, APG 2.1
FG 41.1% 134-326 (49.4% 134-271 as junior)
3PT 41.6% 106-255 (47.3% 98-207 as junior)
FT 88.8% 87-98 (85.9% 67-78 as a junior)

Here's an interesting story asking how he got an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA. (NB: NCAA and UNM ain't talking...)

Will see what happens...
