"If you ask the kids, they really liked (playing soon after Saturday's loss) a lot more. I probably would have liked to have had a little time to practice and work on some of the mistakes we had at the Missouri game. I'm just glad I'm not a football coach, where you have to wait a week before you get to play somebody else.

"It was a workmanlike effort, is what I told our kids. We struggle here when we lose a game because the kids think something's wrong and they almost panic. I sensed a little hesitancy with our team. I sensed a great deal of hesitancy with our crowd. I was a little disappointed to have to face the kind of crowd that we faced over at Missouri on Saturday, and then come back tonight and it's the first time I can remember in the Fieldhouse where our players heard everything I said to them. I like it when they don't hear a lot of times. And if that upsets some people, that's fine. But it wasn't the kind of home crowd that we normally have. They never got into the game. Our kids even talked about how they could hear everything I was saying. Sometimes they play better when they can't hear. But it was a workmanlike effort by our team.

"Jeff Boschee's been struggling. I think he was pressuring himself a little bit. I think Eric was pressuring himself some. I think Luke's getting discouraged because he's not making every shot. So mentally I think it needed to be that kind of deal for us, and I hope we learned something from that kind of effort.

"If I could only pick out one individual, it would be Nick Collison. Fifteen points, 14 rebounds, blocked three shots, had two steals, had three assists, one turnover. You look across that line, that's an impressive line.

"I think Eric still didn't make every shot like everybody wants him to do, but I thought he was much more active. I took him out one time in the first half because I told him we didn't need his fade-away jump shots. A couple of times he got called for traveling because he didn't get his feet set and go on up, but I thought he was more active. Drew Gooden gave us some moments in there, and I think Luke gave us a big lift a couple of times.

"Fifty-seven free throws does not make it an ugly game for me because our whole focus is we have to get the basketball inside. We wanted to do that Saturday, and we didn't do it at all. We wanted to do it today. Early in the game we threw it in to Nick, he threw it right back out to Jeff (Boschee), and Jeff made a three. Then I think our next four trips down the court we threw it in, and some good things happened. I want to establish that first, and then we can have some better outside shots. But when you're taking the ball to the basket, you're gonna get fouled some, and we have a size advantage in there, and we should do even better than we did. They had 22 offensive rebounds, and you don't like that.

"Eleven blocks is impressive. I don't know what the school record is, but that's pretty close because that's a lot of blocked shots. I think Nick's (Collison) were the most impressive because a lot of times his blocked shots were on the guy he was guarding. We have to be careful and not get blocked shot happy and start jumping at every ball fake. But I think we used good judgment tonight. I was pleased with our effort, I was pleased with the way we played. We were tentative, and I didn't like that, but that happens around here when we have a loss like we had on Saturday. It's hard for those guys to understand, but nine, and I think somebody said 10 of the top 25 teams in the country lost on Saturday, and we have to understand that's going to happen sometimes.

"We've got a very difficult stretch here, with six out of nine games on the road. We've got to be able to go on the road and play well and do the things we want to do. We've got some tough ones coming up, but I'm gonna enjoy this one tonight, and then we'll go out and practice tomorrow."
