"It was that kind of a game. At the end of the one quarter they banked one in. At the end of regulation they make that three when it's a double-pump and it crawls up over the rim. And then we make one the same way. I guss you can use (the word) 'relieved' if you want to, but you can also use 'lucky' because we were very lucky tonight. We had opportunities to win the game a couple of times and not let it go into overtime. We didn't do it, but the kids didn't put their heads down. They still played.

"T.J. was all of our offense early, then Paul carried us in the second half for a long, long time. He feels real badly about the missed free throws, but like I told him in the locker room, if he hadn't played his tail off we would not have been in that position anyway. And then Billy came alive, hitting a big three right in front of our bench that got us going a little bit in the second half, hit another three on the other side, and then hit one that crawled in there at the end that was the biggest play of the game.

"We had 16 turnover playing against a zone. Not one turnover in the first half was against the press. Not one. That's just because they were more scrappy than we were, they were more into it mentally and emotionally. You can't say that very often against our club. But the other team wanted it more, and they were really into it more in the first half. Down the stretch we got into it more, with more enthusiasm, more emotion, and that really helped us.

"I'm glad both of us (former KU assistant Steve Robinson, coach of Florida State) are here Friday night. It's going to be hard looking down the bench and seeing someone I care about as much as I would a brother. But I'm really happy for his club. During the game we'll both treat it like a game. He'll try to beat our club and we'll try to beat his club. But Steve Robinson is one of my favorite people in the world."
