Roy Williams - "I'm extremely proud, and I'm sure Norm feels even a little bit more proud of his club, but only because they won. I can't be any prouder of the way we fought. We have Scot sitting over there with us to begin with, then we have B.J. and T.J.. I'm playing Jerod Haase at the four spot in there. I was really proud of the team the way they battled every time. Raef was huge down the stretch for us. Jacque was huge.

"You got to give them a hand. I mean, Jason Sutherland makes a three-pointer from the dead corner with two seconds on the shot clock. Loose ball there and Corey Tate picks it up and shoots it in. Games turn on big plays like that, and they made bigger plays than we did down the stretch.

"We put them on the free throw line so many times down the stretch. We're trying to play without fouling, but they're doing a good job of taking the ball to the basket, curling the screens tighter, and getting to the free thwo line. And when they got there, they were making them.

"(On whether Vaugh deliberately missed a free throw at the end of regulation with KU down two point. LaFrentz puts back the miss on a thunderous slam.) No. What we were trying to do is make it. There were nine seconds left. We were tyring to make it, then go full court pressure. And if we didn't steal the inbounds or prevent them from getting it in, we would have fouled them immediately so we'd have six, seven, eight seconds left for a chance to come back down.

"Having Paul Pierce sitting over there with me... we need him out there on the court for us. We need to stay out of foul trouble. But he's had a tendency recently to get in more foul trouble than he needs to be."

MU coach Norm Stewart - "Ol' Corey (who hit the game winning shot).... It's good when they're seniors and you've been on their ass for a long time, and they start to grin about it. I'm happy for Corey. He's been playing well.

"We told our guys you got to believe. I'm not sure our ball club has had its mind lately on the correct things. We haven't played this hard, and there's no reason not to.

"Vaughn's out and Ryan Robertson does a terific job. Then Vaughn comes back and Robertson plays only about 10 minutes. That's why they're a terrific team. Nobody worries who's playing or scoring. It's about winning.

"(MU's rebounding advantage) is a little surprising because we were giving away size at every position.

"We've been beaten two or three times with five seconds to go. This time it worked out a little better.

"The good news is (we beat) #1. The bad news is, here comes #2." (MU hosts #2 Wake Forest in their next game, which they lose 65-73.)
