| "I hope you guys will bear with me, because I don’t
think I’ve ever been this nervous in my life. I just want to thank you
guys for coming out and making this memorable. I’ll remember this
day forever. And you fans have made it great to play here for four
years. I’m really going to miss running out of that tunnel. And
especially you guys who camp out. I don’t know how you guys do
it, but it just shows what a great basketball program this is. It’s
because of you guys. I think the reason I came to Kansas is
because I wanted to play for a school where.... I can’t imagine
playing for a school where the arena isn’t full every night. You guys
help coach Williams out a lot with recruiting and stuff like that.
Thank you.
"I want to thank my teammates here today. A lot of you guys stepped up big today. It wasn’t as smooth a game as we’d hoped. But we stuck it out, and I don’t know how I would have gotten up here and made this speech if we had lost this game. All year, you guys have been there. And it’s amazing the differences in personalities we have on this team, and how we get along, and the chemistry we have is amazing. It’s just a credit to the kind of people they are. Thanks, guys. "And not just this year’s teammates. Jeff Boschee, who was my host on my recruiting trip. Thanks, Bosch. I miss you, man. The relationships I was able to attain and develop while I’ve been here are amazing. I’ve been able to meet so many great people who have shown a lot of care for me. Brett Ballard, Nick Bradford, Kenny Gregory. I need to thank them, too, because they’re still a part of this program in my mind. "Coach Williams, I just want to say thank you. There’s not too many people believed in me the way you did. Not too many people would have given a skinny guy like me you, you know, maybe had a little potential, a little fire in him, a chance. When I was coming out of high school, there were other schools that were guaranteeing me spots, guaranteeing me things, but coach Williams was just first class. To be honest, I don’t think I would have been allowed to stay in the family if I had chosen anywhere else, because coach Williams just did a perfect job of selling his program. I was talking to my grandma after he had visited my home, and she said, ‘You’re going to Kansas, right?’ It’s just amazing what you’ve done for me. I can’t even express it in words. Thank you, coach. "Now, my family. (break) I don’t know what to say. This isn’t easy. I love you guys.” |
