"The first people I need to thank is the biggest group in here the fans. Every single game for four years, coming in here and playing in front of 16,300 almost every night are some of the best memories of my life. It’s been great, and I don’t think there’s a better home court in the entire country.

"We have such a great coaching staff. They’re really some of the best men I’ve ever met. They work so hard each and every day in everything they do. If I ask coach Miller for something, there’s no hesitation, and it’s the same way with all of them. And over the years, they have really developed from being my coaches to being pretty good friends.

"Coach Williams, when you came into my home when I was a high school senior, I knew Kansas would be a great place to be. You could tell just by watching your teams on TV. They play hard and they do things the right way. I know people say that about you all the time, but it’s true. And when you recruited me, I felt like I could trust you more than anybody else. My last two schools were Duke and Kansas, and the bottom line was that I could trust Roy Williams more than anybody else; he’s so genuine. He has just such a great effect on people, and it’s not a show. You can just tell how real it is. And I can honestly say that everything you told me in recruiting has come true. I owe almost everything I have at the University of Kansas to you, because you gave me a chance and you believed in me.

"And like the other coaches, I think now we’ve really developed a friendship. I feel like I can ask you almost anything, and you’re going to do whatever you can for me, and I appreciate it.

"I feel like I have the best family in the world. I have a row of family members there. Aunts, uncles, cousins… And my parents. We were talking yesterday at my grandma’s funeral about how many miles they’ve put on. I think they’ve put on over 120,000 miles in my four years coming to games. My sister Katie and her husband, TJ, and (little brother) Michael. Me and Michael obviously have a little different personality. He obviously likes the spotlight, and I tend to shy away from it a little bit.

"With every family, it starts with the grandparents. I’ve lost a couple over the past two years, but I still have my Lady Grandma with me. They’ve been through so much. Grandma, every time the national anthem plays, I think of Grandpa… (break) I think of how strong he was, and how he was up in that plane… (break) And it just gives me confidence to know that I have someone with that much heart and bravery in my family. I just appreciate everything you guys do for me. Thank you.”
