"We didn’t play very well, but give South Carolina credit. They were so much more athletic and quicker to balls than we were. They were very ready to play and excited to come here and play, as evidenced by their quick start. And we let it happen. For whatever reason, we were not a real focused team at all. But we stepped up and made some plays late. Russell struggled in the first half, but he came in and made all the plays when he had to down the stretch.

"Dub gets less respect than any good player I’ve coached. They just foul the crap out of him and they don’t call it. We’ll get X-rays, and hopefully his thumb isn’t broken. Because if it is, he’s going to be out a long time because it’s in a bad spot. We’ll certainly hope and pray that it’s not.

"Tonight was just one of those days, kind of like Richmond all over again. We made some key free throws late, but still didn’t make free throws, Keith wasn’t into it at all early, Aaron was not into it, Dub wasn’t into it. Half of our turnovers were guys just not meeting the ball and panicking, and their speed really bothered us. And we never ran. Our guys did not want to run tonight against these guys. When they knocked us on our heels with their aggressiveness, we were nervous to make plays after that. We have got to be a team that gets out and runs.

"A lot of the passes they intercepted, we just threw it right to them. We had some very poor play out there. We just waited until they trapped it and threw it right to them. Of course, this will be a good tape to learn from. We can’t simulate that quickness in practice, but we’ve been practicing against six and seven guys. But it’s different when there’s pressure out there. When things aren’t going well, guys tighten up, and that’s certainly what happened tonight.

"Still, we made enough plays. We came back and did some good things late. Our defense was pretty good late. We even rebounded the ball good late, and we had to play small. So I’m proud of our guys that we hung in there and won, but that was not a real good performance tonight.

"You can’t foul (ahead 61-58) unless there’s less than five seconds left. Every coach will tell you there’s no way you can go foul the ball when they’ re in the bonus with more than five seconds left because there’s too much game left. You foul with 30 seconds left, that’s how you lose. They made the basket with 00:15 left, we threw the ball in-bounds and Russell got fouled, calmly stepped up there and made two, and then at the end we said we would switch on ball screens. Wayne’s guy got a good look, and he’s a good three-point shooter, but fortunately Keith rebounded the ball and we were able to make one to ice it."
