* Red-shirted one year.
[1] #33 in Rivals150 for 2015. Will sit out 2017-18, will have 2 years to play 2. Originally moved up a year to the 2015 recruiting class so he could play with his older brother KJ.
[2] #36 in Rivals150 for 2016. Will be eligible to play for KU after the end of the Fall 2017 semester. Will have 2 years of eligibility left after 2017-18, but can still redshirt a year to stay through AY2020-21. Per NCAA rules, his semester playing at ASU cost him one year of eligibility and his playing Spring 2018 at KU cost him his second year. If he does redshirt -- or sit out after transferring again to another program -- he will still have 2 years of eligibility left to play 2.
[3] #54 in Rivals150 for 2015. Will sit out 2017-18, will have 2 years to play 2, may get 3 for 3 if NCAA approves a 6th year due to medical redshirting his freshman year (was hurt in 10th game of the season at Memphis).
[4] #55 in Rivals150 for 2016. Reportedly is applying for hardship transfer status so he can play this fall (transferring to be closer to ill father), but getting it seems unlikely as it is questionable that Lawrence is close enough to Chicago for this to be approved. Assuming it is NOT granted, he will have 3 years to play 3 at KU.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
13 total scholarships allowed each AY
- 8 returning scholarship players (assumes Silvio is good to go).
-> 5 scholarships for AY2017-18, depending upon other EEs, transfers or other losses
∴ 1 scholarships available as of this update.

JayhawkSlant Early Signing Period Notebook

NB: From the premium side of the Slant ledger, today Shay says: "Right now, I believe KU's 2018 class, during the early period, will consist of Grimes, Dotson, De Sousa and McCormack. Again, subject to change."
IOW, Tomorrow he may differ...

Early signing period 8-15 November.

Stay tuned, eh?

Same Jayhawktime, same Jayhawkchannel...

(And yeah, I am old enough that I can remember seeing the original airing of the original expression.)

As reported by Shay Wildeboor at Rivals' JayhawkSlant.com (link to paid site)
Rivals capsule:

Tweet:
Here's the gist of the article for those who are not Slant members.

Rivals No. 17 ranked 2018 player has officially visited the final two schools remaining on his list, Kansas and Maryland.

Self & Roberts, and "members of the Maryland coaching staff", visited Dotson in-home one last time yesterday (Wed 2017-11-11; second in-home for both programs) .

He originally focused in on a select group of schools: Kansas, Arizona, Florida, Maryland, Miami (FL), Ohio State, USC and Wake Forest, with KU and the Terps coming down to the wire for him.

The young man knows that Self thinks he can be the next great PG at KU.

Shay's thoughts on Dotson? Shay says he could be wrong, but he feels very good about Dotson picking KU.

Anticipating the question for those interested, nothing mentioned yet about being able to watch or listen in on the announcement.

If KU lands him, that would be at least 3 of the 4 recruits Shay believes will sign in the November early signing period.
PG Dotson.
PF 25/*****	Silvio De Sousa 6-9/220 Bradenton, FL/IMG Academy 2017-08-30 commitment
C 33/****	David McCormack 6-10/260 Mouth of Wilson VA/Oak Hill Acad	2017-09-24 commitment
Getting 4 signed early would ensure KU fills the minimum scholarship openings early for the first time in a long time. KU may still have more openings for the Spring signing season -- up to 9 total (see the OP) -- but 4 openings (2 graduates, 1 open scholarship and at least 1 Early Entry) are a practical certainty.

Self has his third recruit for next year in Devon Dotson.

www2.kusports.com/news/2017/oct/13/2018-...tson-commits-kansas/

It sounds like this puts us in a good position for Zion Williamson as well. Quentin Grimes decision is next (2 guard) and Crystal Ball says KU is the favorite. If we sign Grimes this will arguably be the top recruiting class in KU history. Sign Grimes and Williamson and there will be no argument. It would include a 5 star player at all 5 positions, the top player in the class and likely at least 3 McD AA's. I also can't imagine even UK or Duke having a better class for 2018.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself. Right now I'm just thankful to have Devon Dotson coming to Lawrence. Huge pickup! Congratulation to young Mr. Dotson and the KU staff.

The OP has been updated to better reflect offerees still being pursued by KU.

Most recruits moved to the FORMER RECRUITS table have committed elsewhere.
One recruit got in serious trouble with the law (felony charges), leading to his being moved to FORMER status.

Big names KU is still waiting to hear from (all still on JayhawkSlant's Hot Board) are
F! 2/*****	Zion Williamson 6-6/230 Spartanburg, SC/Spartanburg Day	HIGH
G! 6/*****	Romeo Langford 6-4/185 New Albany, IN/New Albany HIGH
G! 11/*****	Quentin Grimes 6-5/180 The Woodlands, TX/College Park	HIGH

Getting chum Devon Dotson to commit is considered to be a coup that significantly ups KU's chances of landing Rivals overall #2 recruit Zion Williamson..

Quentin Grimes has one visit left (Marquette this weekend) after visiting KU (10/13). Word is Q and family (mom, dad, grandparents; NB: mom attended KU) "ABSOLUTELY LOVED" everything about the visit and KU is still considered to be the leader for young Mr. Grimes. (Source: JayhawkSlant )

Nothing new that I have found on Romero Langford. Odds are that if we land Grimes, we won't get Langford. 247sports crystal ball predictions for him are IU 64% KU 21%, Louisville 14%.

Today is the first day of the early signing period, which will last until Nov 15.

Remember, KU will have anywhere from 4 to 9 scholarships to fill depending on who leaves besides the seniors.

The three existing commitments - Dotson, DeSousa and McCormack -- are expected to sign in the early period.
The gurus are also predicting that KU will land Quinton Grimes, with Shay at JayhawkSlant/Rivals reporting that Grimes is set to make his decision and sign during the next 7 days, with KU being his expected choice.
(Date format is YY-MM-DD)
Pos Rnk/Rating	NAME HT/WT Hometown & HS/College Committed/Signed
PG 17/*****	Devon Dotson 6-1/180 Charlotte, NC/Providence Day 17-10-13/
PF 25/*****	Silvio De Sousa 6-9/220 Bradenton, FL/IMG Academy 17-08-30/
C 33/****	David McCormack 6-10/260 Mouth of Wilson VA/Oak Hill Acad	17-09-24/
UNCOMMITTED TO DATE
SG 11/*****	Quentin Grimes 6-5/180 The Woodlands, TX/College Park

I have seldom seem Shay so certain on a recruit as he is on Grimes. Sure hope he is right.

If this plays out, Rivals reports this would be the best early signing period class in KU history, and would put the Jayhawks at or near the top in the early period program recruiting rankings.

Fingers crossed we get all 4 -- a great foundation for moving ahead with filling whatever holes are left in the Spring signing period.

In re: DrJhawker's question, and more...

Rivals overall #2 recruit Williamson is seen by about half of the pundits to be a UK lean.

Rivals four gurus are split 50% UK, otherwise they think Duke or "home" school Clemson.

247Sports "Crystal Ball" measures have him 47% UK, 20% KU, 13% DUke, 7% tarred heels and 13% no clue.
Scout.com uses 247Sports Crystal Ball info.
I don't subscribe to ESPN Insider at present, and have found nothing on ESPN staffer's predictions.

FWIW, I haven't seen anything on him committing and signing early.

Regarding Quinten Grimes -- note that in addition to Shay feeling good about Grimes deciding on KU, all 4 of the "Rivals.com basketball team of Eric Bossi, Corey Evans, Dan McDonald and Krysten Peek" have him picking KU.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball numbers are 89% KU, 11% Unknown.

Romero Langford seems to be an Indiana lean (everyone at Rivals, 80% in the Crystal Ball (just 7% KU).

Latest word from JayhawkSlant is that DeSousa is trying to finish up so he can enroll for the January term. Will be huge for KU front court depth if he can! Ball seems to be in NCAA’s court. Keeping my fingers crossed ...

KU commits Dotson, DeSousa and McCormack are all signed and in the fold.

Rivals national guru Eric Bossi has reported that KU’s next big target, Quentin Grimes, will be deciding — and presumably signing — on his program during the early signing period. All signs — Rivals experts and 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions — point to him choosing KU. If he does, KU will have all 4 “for sure” openings covered with arguably its best ever early signing period class... and still be in the running for those top players who choose to wait until spring to see how the landscape shifts.

And more on DeSousa — as reported earlier, he is trying to get okayed to enroll early, thereby counting against the remaining open scholarship for this year instead of next. There is now talk that his camp believes that its just a matter of time before he will get NCAA approval to be on board with the team at the end of this December, which could be huge for this March.

Stay tuned, Jayhawks fans!

Yesterday evening Rivals Eric Bossi posted on JayhawkSlant that he is still expecting Quentin Grimes to pick KU NLT this Wednesday.

This morning Grimes tweeted this:

Maybe sooner than Wednesday?
247Sports Crystal Ball says 78% KU, 11% tu, 11% no clue.

247sports.com/PlayerInstitution/Quentin-...t=636461635912859734

What would make a delightful KU trifecta this week? Best kenyucky, learn DeSousa can start early and land Grimes.

Make it so!

Receipt makes his signing on 11/8 (first day of the signing period) official. His guardian had to sign as well, and from what I’ve read that was the holdup (guardian was unavailable for some unstated reason).

Now it’s just waiting to see if the NCAA will clear him to enroll for Spring (joining team upon the end of this semester).

Fingers crossed!

Say KU's your choice, please
to play for the Final Four!*

*Words written with "When I'm 64" running through my befuddled brain (and yes, that last is also a reference, one that fans of vanguard symphonic/progressive rock group Procol Harum might just get...)

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"

Gary Bedore on Twitter last night

OK, it's late but if you want me to shed some light on De Sousa maybe playing for KU this year. ... His guardian tells me the whole goal is for De Sousa to start playing for KU in late December, after Christmas.

Guardian said there are no problems regarding his credits and he should be finished with his last h.s. exam Dec. 12 or so.

The 1 possible snafu in the plans to play for KU this season. He will soon receive his standardized test score and that score must be matched with his core courses.

Bill Self told me: "His graduating class graduates in Dec. due to the fact he started in January in Angola. It’s his high school 8th semester. He is on pace for graduation. Now he has to make the corresponding test score. We don’t have the test score back yet."

Excellent question... Guardian tells me he believes De Sousa will be draft eligible this June. Says he will not turn pro. Flat out said he'd be back to KU.

If he does play second semester will he be draft eligible this June or will we see him 3 semesters at KU?

Somebody asked me his impact this year. I can't find the ? now. ... A: If he plays for KU starting in Big 12 season? I dunno. I know people like Larry Brown love his potential. But you know how it goes with freshmen. Tough to say especially since I haven't seen him play.
