"The first ten or 11 minutes we had seven turnovers, and I stood up and screamed at them a coaching genius kind of statement, because I said, ‘Let’s get a shot.’ I guess that’s silly. You should be able to give them better information than that. But you’re not gonna beat anybody if you don’t get shots. After that, I thought we did get into it a little bit better. I think we closed out the first half with a 10-0 run, and then scored the first five points of the second half.

"I thought defensively in the second half we were much, much better. For the most part, we did a good job of getting the shot that we wanted, and made some shots. I think we ended up shooting 61-and-a-half percent. They shot 31-and-a-half. They shot more threes. They need to do that. I’m not coaching Dave’s (Bliss) club, that’s for sure. I have enough trouble coaching mine. But it was important to us to get good shots. And after that started, it was important for us to get shots and try to see if we could turn them over a little bit. We got some turnovers in the second half and got some layups out of it, which always helps.

"We always try to get the ball (inside), because we have Nick Collison, who is a heck of a player. We have Keith, who can take the ball to the basket. Kirk can drive it in there as well. But that is part of our focus every time, is to try to get it inside, try to get fouled. We didn’t do as good a job of getting fouled as we’d like to do. Yet we fouled them probably a little too much. I was really concerned that they would really bounce back after what was a tough day for them Saturday. I’m sure they paid a lot more attention to their coaches after that game. But if you take away the turnovers, I really liked a lot of the things we did.

"(Nick Collison) can shoot the basketball. He’s done a really nice job this year of making some choices on when to shoot that three- point shot. He’s one-for-two tonight. But Keith made a big three for us, Kirk made one, Michael made one. We don’t like to shoot a lot of threes because we’ve got a talented individual that can do something inside, and it gives us a chance to get fouled, and that’s what we usually try to do.

(Keith Langford) was here the last time we played down here, except he was a high school senior. He and his mom drove over to watch the game. We didn’t play very well that time, so it was a much better memory for me of him being on the court instead of being a spectator. And in fact, in the first half Keith was the most important player we had. He was the one who was getting a lot of things accomplished.

"We have about 165 former lettermen coming in (for Iowa State Saturday). They’ll be there for reunion weekend. 105 years of Kansas basketball. A local media guy who is not a KU guy said, ‘Those guys will look for any reason to have a party.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, it’s not a bad idea.’ We’ve been playing basketball for 105 years, and we have a reunion every five years. Those guys enjoy it, I enjoy it, and we’ll always continue doing it. Our current players will get a chance to meet a lot of those older guys, and see what it still means to them to be a Kansas basketball player."
