Possession analysis

"It was a workmanlike effort. There were times when we were really good. We had a really nice four-minute stretch from about 14:00 down to 10:00 in the second half. I thought the work on the backboards was really good for us for the whole game. They were playing box-and-one on Kirk a little bit, and that gave us the outside shot. We took more threes than I wanted us to take. I think we should have gotten the basketball inside a little more, but we didn’t make a great percentage inside, so we didn’t shoot it as well. But we made some plays and did some things on the backboards, and got them to turn it over a couple of times that helped us down the stretch, too.

"We wanted to finish the (first) half a little better. We didn’t get two very good possessions at the end of the half. They did a good job of not letting us be as effective on the fast break. We’ve got to do a better job of running the break, but I’ve said many times we’ve got to be a team that can play a half-court offense as well. Today they played a lot of zone and some man-to-man and sagged off some people. And that’s the way we’re gonna be played, so we’ve got to do a good job against that.

"(Nick Collison) has had two games against Nebraska where he hasn’t shot the ball well at all. Last time he was 0-6 to start the game. But he did a nice job on the backboards, and he had some blocks for us. But we do need scoring out of Nick, and if they’re going to face-guard Kirk or play box-and-one, we’ve got to get better movement out of Nick and Jeff Graves inside to give us some more weapons in there.

"Their zone made it tougher to get the ball inside. As I said, I don’t want to shoot three-point shots 23 times just because their coach wants us to shoot that. We’ve got to do a better job of moving, and we’ve got to do a better job of getting the ball in there.

"(Missouri) has a home game today and then they come over to our place on Monday night. I want out kids to enjoy this one. It’s another W. It counts just as much as Texas did on Monday night. We’ve got to be ready to play, and we’ll have to be more enthused, more into it. The roads (games) are a little tougher to play, but hopefully our crowd will help us a little bit on Monday night."
