"I'm at a loss. That second half is about as poorly as we've played all year. At the same time, if you dwell on that, you don't give Kansas State credit, and you should give Kansas State credit. I think they were much more assertive, much more aggressive, made more plays the entire second half. We were discouraged at halftime because we didn't think we'd played very well. We'd made some mistakes that we couldn't understand, and yet we were up 18, so it's hard to get the youngsters to understand the corrections at that point. Then it continued and even got worse in the second half. When you look down and see that Kansas shot 28.9% in the second half and allows the other team to shoot 50%, you've got to feel it's your lucky day. I feel like I won the lottery right now because that was not a very good exhibition of basketball. If we play like that, we're going to be an also-ran.

"I guess their zone bothered us because we weren't very effective against it, and I thought this would be the best zone offensive team I've ever coached. The first play against the zone, we get a dunk, and then after that we didn't get anything. I've never seen Jeff Boschee miss as many shots as he did. Luke Axtell missed shots. Nick Collison and Eric Chenowith had it wide open in the middle, 10 feet from the basket, and a couple of times I thought they could have taken a dribble and laid it up, but they shot jump shots from 10 feet and missed them. You've got to make shots against a zone.

"But what we did defensively.... We didn't play on the defensive end and didn't execute on the offensive end. Eleven for thirty-eight. You ought to get your tail beat.

"Eric really made some big plays for us. One time he got to or three offensive rebounds in a row and put it back in for us. But in the last six minutes of the game, we threw it inside several times and couldn't finish the play. He needs to take another split second, gather himself, and explode up there.

"It was not a good night. Let's just let it go at that.

"It will be interesting to see how Drew Gooden reacts to this. He hasn't had a poor game this year. Hasn't even had a poor half. But he plays 13 minutes and he has one rebound.

"In one set we had two guys go the wrong way on a set play. We called a timeout and called another set play, and had two guys go the wrong way again. I guess that's about as negative as you can possibly be, but that's how I feel. I told them, if you want to be a great team and have a great year, you've got to win some games ugly, and that's about all there is to say about that. It was almost like a comedy of errors out there."
