"The best thing you can say about it is it is a W. Give Southern Cal credit. They were in more of a defensive frenzy than we were. They outquicked us to every basketball that was loose. They basically outplayed us. We were more gifted is about what it boiled down to. They outcoached us. They outplayed us. But at the end of the game we had more points than they did.

"We've got to play a heck of a lot better than that. We made more turnovers. We played a pressure team (TCU) over the weekend and don't turn it over a single time (against the press). And today we had two times wee were going out of bounds and throw it back in under their basket, which every sixth grader in America knows you throw it to the other end. We threw it back underneath their basket, and they lay it up. That was just indicative of what kind of night it was.

"At the end we took some ridiculous shots. We've got a 13-point lead, Lester takes a bad shot, Raef takes a bad shot, and now it's back to seven or eight again. And you can't do that if you want to be a good team. We're a good team. I'm not saying that. But if you want to reach your potential, you can't play dumb, and we played about as dumb and I coached about as dumb as any guy who ever coached at Kansas.

"It would ahve been a bad time if we'd have lost. I'm so discouraged about how we played. I told the team, we took some major strides forward on Saturday in the way we played defensively, and we took the same number of major strides backwards the way we played tonight."
