Roy Williams - "(The streak) should have broken. that's the bottom line. I told Tom, and I really meant it, doesn't make him feel any better whatsoever, but the team that played the best tonight did not win. I know that doesn't make them feel any better, and I'm not being overly gracious. I'm being flat honest. they outhustled us. They outrebounded us, regardless of what the stats say. They played basketball and they coached better than I did tonight. I don't mind saying that. we stunk it up, but we were very lucky. And thre reason we stunk it up was because of Kansas State. It's not jus that Kansas can do what Kansas wants to do, Kanss State defended us, outrebounded us, outdrove us. They did everything that could be done in a basketball game tonight, including coaching, and they did it a lot better than we did.

"We made two plays that really determined the outcome of the game. Billy tipped out the second free throw that B.J. missed, and Jacque was tough enough to step up there and make two free throws. Other than that, we stunk.

"We took bad shots, and we were impatient, and their defense guarded us. At one timeout at the 4:00 mark they had been shooting two free throws for six or seven minutes, and we're still in the one-and-one. They had taken one three-pointer, and we were one for nine, and they weren't good shots because they were guarding us out there, too.

"I know ont thing: I'm going to build me a hotel in Manhattan because we're never driving over hear on the bus right before the game. We couldn't get a hotel room because of all the tournaments going on. We wouldn't come over last night. But every shot we took was short. We had no legs, and taht's stupidity on the coach's part.

"(Pollard's and LaFrentz' blocks late) were big. And Jacque got a hand up on Swartzendruber's three there at the end. Raef got a hand up on Shawn Rhodes' long one. But we didn't play, even at the last of the game. What we were supposed to do, if they dribbled it to the ten-second line, was foul them. We didn't do it. And what it Shawn's shot hits the back of the rim and bounces up into the rafters and comes down through the net. That's what we deserved, probably.

"I'm not pleased with my coaching. I thought I had us ready to play, but I didn't. And Tom did a heck of a lot better job of getting his club ready to play. I feel for them. I mean that sincerely. Now they have to wait another week instead of getting another chance to get out there. they don't play again for another week. But Tom's coaching and K-State's players were better than anything that Kansas did."

KSU coach Tom Asbury - "We played pretty well defensively. We played with a lot of energy and emotion. but's it's a loss. That's all.

"We had a chance to win. They're good. They're a terrific team. But we could have won.

"We played harder than we have the last tow or three weeks. Once the ball goes up, I don't think their five or our five know how many days off they've had.

"(Losses are) all tough. They're all tough. Our defense was very good. We hold them to 28%, but we should. We know them probably better than anybody in the league, so there shouldn't be any surprises. Our problem has been on the offensive end, period. That's obvious. Look at the game."
