"It's good to get your first win. We played a very spirited squad, a very intense squad. Dick (Davey, SCU coach) said before the game that he really likes this team, and I can see why. They have more quickness, more athleticism than they did last year. They still miss Steve Nash and Brendon Graves. But in the first half they really out hustled us. I don't think I've said that very often about our basketball team, but I think Santa Clara out hustled us. They got all the loose balls. They got on the backboards more. We had a four-point lead at halftime, and I felt like we were 15 or 20 down. The first eight minutes or so of the second half I thought we were really good. And then we started coasting a little bit and didn't make very good decisions with the ball, and it got fairly ugly after that.

"It was a tremendous game for Jerod. I don't want to slight what Jerod did, but in the first half we were rebounding so poorly we never could get our break going nor could we get any second shots. In the first part of the second half we got our break going a little bit and that got some other people involved in the game. Jerod did a really good job, and then he made two big-time steals against their flex that we worked on, and took it down and got layups and got fouled, too.

"Ryan did okay. I'm not going to say anything more than that until I've seen the tape because I think he's really got to work on keeping his guy in front of him defensively and not make the silly reach fouls. We need him in the game. We don't need him sitting over there. I've got enough point guards sitting over there with me already.

"In the fist half no one rebounded. I mean, Paul Pierce has zero rebounds, and his man has three offensive rebounds. Needless to say, I shared that with him at halftime. We didn't rebound the ball at all, and I've been concerned about it. We finally started doing a better job in the second half.

"It's good to be going to Hawaii with a win, and I'm looking forward to getting there and playing better than we did tonight."
