Roy Williams - "It feels good. It's a happy time in that locker room. The kids feel good about it; I feel good about it. I don't mind saying that. It's a heck of an accomplishment. But I'm happier about this Big 8 championship, because I think the kids have worked hard. And a lot of times when there's so high expectations and people expect you to do this and expect you to do that, it's difficult to stand up to them, but they've really done well.

"I never try to think about what our record will be. I thought we'd be a very good basketball team. I think we are a very good basketball team. I'd like to make more shots, but Jacque certainly made a bunch of 'em in the second half today. He had great leadership. Jerod was all over the backboards. Paul didn't score, and yet had his career high in assists with eight. I think, again, it's Kansas basketball: five guys sharing in the win.

"(Haase) really hustled to get (rebounds). I jumped on him and Jacque both at one point, because a shot is taken and they're both standing 15 feet out from the basket and didn't go after the rebound. After that, (Haase) seemed to get every one of them. Jacque, Jerod, Paul, Raef, Scot really did some good things. When Raef and Scot got in foul trouable, BJ stepped up and made a big field goal, made two free throws for us. We can go down the lilne.

"Anybody who just looks at scoring doesn't realize what that youngster (Vaughn) does, except today he scored also. I think the impotrtant things about it today was those were big shots. They (KSU) made a run, got it to three or four, and he makes a three. They do down then come back again, he makes another three. And one of them he even made as the shot clock was going down. So again, I just can't imagine anybody in this league having a better year than that youngster is.

"There's some celebrating in the locker room. We brought some Big 8 championship t-shirts and gave 'em out in there. Paul Pierce thinks he's a professional football player--he sort of doused me with a little water when I got in there. But it's fun and that's the good thing about college coaching."

KSU coach Tom Asbury - "I'm not too happy. We didn't get a lot out of the pivot, obviously, and that was a factor.

"We had trouble on the boards, and we had to rely too much on freshmen. That's a dangerous combination. Manny and Paco (May) played great. With freshmen, though, you're going to have good individual efforts, but you're not going to win.

"(KU) has great poise and great leadership. They came out the second half and ran off a spurt. That's what top-notch teams will do.

"I take zero consolation in playing them close. Let's not talk about moral victories, none of that crap."
