With thanks to Lerner & Lowe for "Show Me" as the inspiration for today’s intro.
The real question now is can Bill Self pull a Henry Higgins with this Jekyll-Hyde Jayhawks squad? - HE
Don’t talk of heart.
Or playing hard.
Don’t play that card.
SHOW UP!
Don’t talk of crowns
You’ll just make us frown.
Time to throw down.
SHOW UP!
What in the world has happened to that scrappy team that was so fun to watch?
Capable of beating all the best teams, then the rest teams hung you out with the wash!
Make no mistake.
We love you guys
But we’ve opened our eyes.
SHOW UP!
SHOW UP!
Don’t speak of “if”
The chances you’ve whiffed!
We’re still behind you, but wow!
SHOW
US
NOW!
It’s another KANSAS JAYHAWKS Men’s Basketball...
... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!
The Jayhawks enter the 6th game of their regular season ending gauntlet with a 2-3 record, with the only acceptable and understandable loss being at Arizona. Unacceptable and confusing as the Dickens to KU fans were losing in a day game in AFH to UC, and then Tuesday night losing it’s first conference night game and it’s first consecutive loss this season to lowly ASU in Tempe (KU is 0-5 all time in Tempe, 0-3 in the soon to end Hurley era if Arizona sports media have any connections).
Now comes the SENIOR GAME, the last home game for our Jayhawks this season. It also happens to be the last game of the regular season, so it’s impact is tremendous. It’s another day game in AFH, this time against a bitter and beaten Tang-less KState team that would like nothing better than to salvage what little is left of their season by going out with a bang. Beat KU in AFH, avenge the earlier loss in the Doldrums of Gloom, knock KU out of a Top 4 B12T seed and end the KU Senior Game win streak at 42. Ted Owens was the last KU head coach to have a team lose its Senior Game (Mar 2, 1983: NU 60 KU 58).
Yeah, the game is THAT huge.

ESPN analytics favor KU to win 90.9% of the time, with the spread favoring KU by a whopping 17.5 points (Link)
asteroid has yet to post his prediction for this game, but his Big XII Projection Round 18 projects KU winning 87-70. link

Notwithstanding the obvious - lower competition, playing at AFH, and playing on pumped-up senior day - I thought this was the best our offense has looked in a long, long time. The final game stats tell the tale, with exceptional upper-level performance and balance across Tre, DP, Mel, and Flo. Nice to also get contributions from Kohl, Paul, and Dawson off the bench. Bryson remains in a major funk and slump - having trouble securing the ball when he puts it not the floor, having touch on his shots, and not turning it over when passing it. REALLY hope he gets past it because we need him in the postseason.
As for DP, that was by far the most athletic, fast, smooth, and free-flowing he's looked all year. Also very much in the flow of the offense. I was super impressed when he took over point in the 2nd half and ran very smooth, dynamic offensive sets - with some great assists and nice scoring on his part near the rim. Dude has a very soft, sweet touch there (when he's in rhythm - unlike at ASU), and that's a great sign given that we already know he has the outside shooting game.
All told, a great win heading into the KC tourney. Now...GO BYU! We need them to beat TTU tonight to move us from the 4 seed to the 3 in the league tourney bracket. That would move us down to the Houston side of the bracket and ensure that our first game Thursday would be a night game against a far more manageable foe than Iowa State (with their gazillion fans flocking to their annual Super Bowl at Sprint Center). If that happens and we win our first game, and the Cougars do as well, we would then play Houston instead of Arizona (if we had been the 4 and managed to beat ISU). Houston is a better matchup with us. I don't fear Zona in KC if the Hawks get that far - in fact, I'd love to see it - but playing them in the FINAL instead of the SEMI would be huge. So, again, go BYU! Win on senior night, guys...

Mission accomplished COUGARS!
Roar, Cougars, ROAR on SENIOR NIGHT!
Congratulations and THANK YOU from Jayhawks fans everywhere!
P.S. - Even though our guys wore Crimson Saturday, with our win and BYU's win it turned out to be a
GREAT DAY FOR THE BIG 12 BLUE!
(Hard to believe that with 16 teams only two have blue as their primary color. Most are red, a couple are purple, plus a few others - and no, I don't miss the black & gold at all!)
PPS - KU SHOWED UP!
