"Well, they make three or four threes in the first three or four minutes of the game. We had hoped we wouldn't give them that open look like that. Their dribble penetration really hurt us, and I think over the course of the game it really boiled down to their speed and quickness won the battle against size today. We didn't take advantage of our size, and they took great advantage of their speed and quickness.

"We thought we were still in the game and had cut it to nine in the second half, even though we'd had to withstand another furious two or three minutes by Gilbert, there. He really had an outstanding game. A couple of times we felt like we had him guarded and he was off balance, one foot out in front of the other, and he still knocked them in. I'm sorry he got hurt because he really had a great game.

"But again, speed and quickness was the major factor in the game, and that was to their advantage. We didn't do a very good job, I didn't do a very good job of coaching. The first half we had some matchups, and I tried to mix them up a little the second half, but they didn't work out again. It was just a difficult day for us.

"Ashante Johnson gave us a big lift in the first half that was important for us. Eric was struggling. Drew was struggling. Ashante hadn't been called on very much. We got a little bit of a rotation set, and the only times he's been called on, he's been able to perform for us. Maybe that means I should give him extra time. I thought he and Jeff Carey both gave us a lift at the end of the first half. Part of that was because I was so upset with other guys who didn't sprint back on defense.

"You think we should have a huge advantage on the backboards because of our size, but I'm amazed we even had as big an advantage as we did, because it seemed to me like they were getting all the offensive rebounds. But speed and quickness and Clarence Gilbert shooting it in.... Hafer was a load for us. I've always had a great deal of respect for him.

"Quin really had a great game plan and had them more ready to play than I did. I'm disappointed because I don't think we played as well as we can play, and I don't think we executed the way we need to execute against a team that's very, very good. You know, somebody's going to say, 'Well, how'd they lose to Winthrop?' That's college basketball. They were primed and ready today, and got off to a great start."
