"I did think we got better tonight. We saw the benefits of getting out and just playing sound, straight up man-to-man defense. I think we were better at that in the second half. Overall, I was fairly pleased with the game. But let's give some credit to Pittsburg State. I thought Gene's (Iba, PSU coach) kids were ready to play, the little Pate kid was a load for us to handle and he really made some tough shots. I thought they stayed in it. I was even impressed that down at the end it was a 25- or 28-point game, and they made their last two threes because they kept playing, and I think they need to be congratulated for doing that.

"I liked some of the things we did. I thought Eric was more into it tonight. I thought Nick Collison was a little fresher tonight and felt better about what he was doing out there. We got some good play from some guys off the bench. But I think the biggest thing is that we got better defensively. We're gonna face some guys who are a lot more gifted than Pittsburg State, to say the least, but you've got to take some small steps, and I think we took some tonight.

"We got into two different stretches, one in the first half and one in the second, when everybody tried to do it by themselves. You look at the guy who's guarding you, you think you're bigger, you think you're quicker, you think you're more gifted or whatever, and you think you can take him. And we had a little bit too much of that in two different stretches. Other than that, I really liked the way Drew and Nick Collison worked on the backboards. Eric did some nice things on the backboards, too, but I really liked Drew and Nick on the boards.

"Eric's assist to error ratio is zero assists and only one turnover. I'd take that every game. He's leading our team in turnovers. He had 24 turnovers coming into tonight's game. I met with him today, and just told him, 'Don't hurt us. Don't throw the basketball away.' We don't ask him to make plays, we don't ask him to try to hit those backdoor passes or behind the back or anything like that. Just make the easy play, and that will help us, and I think he did that.

"I think the kids are probably thinking more about finals than anything. I don't think they're thinking about the next game. We didn't practice Wednesday, didn't practice Thursday. They came in last night and we practiced, then they had a little study hall last night after practice. I killed their social life because I'm bringing them in tonight after the game for study hall again. This is exam period, and we should be concerned about our basketball and our exams, and hopefully we'll get something good to happen."
