Roy Williams - "It was good to get that basket (three-pointer by Thomas) right before we went in (at half). It gave us a little bit of a push. But I think the things we talked about at halftime were more important because we weren't doing early in the first half what we wanted to do. When we came out in the second half, boy, we were really good. We defended. We cut down on their second shots, even though they didn't get many in the first half. We got to the boards. We got the ball off the boards and started running, and didn't turn it over. The first half we had 13 turnovers, and I thought half of them were just silly plays on our part. But GW had a lot to do with that. I was disappointed at half with our tournovers, and I was disappointed in our play in the zone. We went to the zone because we had three guys with two fouls, and I was trying to get to the halftime break without anybody getting their third. But we did a terrible job in the zone, and it was ridiculous. We don't work on it nearly as much, and that's the coach's fault. But yet our mistakes were very simple ones that we should know better. We came out in the second half and took better care of the basketball and really started defending them a heck of a lot better.

"(The Thomas shot at the half) was a play that we drew up, and the kids executed it just like we drew it up on the sideline. We were going to let Billy shoot the three-point shot, and he had to make a heck of a play, but it showed a lot of experience on our team. And even Nick, we had a freshman taking the ball out of bounds. I wanted a little bit of size and a good passer over there, and he really did a good job.

"We caught GW on a good night. I want everybody to understand that they played Sunday and Monday, then traveled all the way out here, practiced here last night, and then played here tonight. That's not easy to do, and we were very fortunate that we caught them then.

"Jerod shot it in the hole. He rebounded. He made his free throws. He passed it to our guys and not their guys, and I think that's something. He was so good, as a matter of fact, I caught myself keeping him in the game a little bit more. I probably pushed him a little bit and should have played Billy a couple more minutes because Billy's been so important to us, as well.

"The kids have worked awfully hard. We gave them Sunday and Monday off to try to get ready for (finals). It's been a difficult schedule for them recently, and the last two weeks of school have been difficult, but hopefully they'll get off to a good start."

GW coach Mike Jarvis - "I remember the first time I got beat up as a little kid in the neighborhood. I learned a hell of a lot. I went and took boxing lessons. Never got beat up again. I'll find out if my guys go take boxing lessons.

"I think (Allen Fieldhouse) is one of the greatest arenas and one of the greatest places for basketball in the country. A lot of people talk about knowledgeable fans in a lot of different places, but they lie. The fans here are very knowledgeable and appreciative of good basketball, which they see most of the time. You couldn't find a better place to play than Lawrence, Kansas.

"You can't take five- and six-minute vacations against the best team in the country and expect anything different than what happened. I'll know relatively soon what we're made of.

"Koul learned some lessons tonight. If he's the only center we got, he's got to be in shape to play two centers because other teams have two."
