Roy Williams - "We were really good defensively starting out, and I think that just set the tempo for the whole game. After that they were never able to get back into the basketball game at all. I was really pleased that we did a much better job boxing out, then went after the rebounds. And we came down court and got better shots.

"We created some turnovers out of our defense, and that gave us better, easier shots on the break, and that makes it easier any time.

"Our team beat LSU. Lester (Earl, who would later transfer to KU), was trying to front Scot inside. They didn't stop him from moving side to side, and then you can lob over the top. When teams do that against us, like last year when Temple beat us (66-74) everybody said Mark Jackson beat the dickens out of Scot Pollard, and that wasn't right. The perimeter guys did a poor job defensively, and that's why big guys get hurt.

"We will enjoy tonight, get a chance to watch these games and see who we'll play and try to play as well tomorrow night."

LSU coach Dale Brown - "That team is something, wouldn't you say? They have four #1 draft choices on that team. There is no question about that. It was a bigger, stronger, more talented basketball team that whomped us. They took us out of everything we tried to do.

"We are very young and inexperienced and were not ready for that. We told them before the game that undoubtedly in our minds this is the best college basketball team in the country. We caught them on a bad night because he (Williams) was upset at the way they played in their opener against Santa Clara.

"We took a whipping, but not many will beat them. They were physically tougher than we were and played better than we did, that's for sure.

"Lester was way too hyper. He just tries so hard. He was not with it tonight. But, hey, I remember a game when Shaquille O'Neal scored not points for us."
