Roy Williams - "I've said all along I think we're a good shooting basketball team, but we haven't shown it very often. Tonight we shot the ball in, and it's amazing how much smoother things look when you shoot the ball in from the outside.

"I was very pleased with what we did on the offensive end and wasn't as pleased defensively. I didn't think we were as sharp, we didn't quite have the intensity, and it could be because Oklahoma State tried to spread us a little bit, drive us to the basket. We didn't defend as well as I'd like us to, but at the same time we were really good offensively. But when you look and they have 21 offensive rebounds and we only have eight, that's not a good sign.

"At one time there was a foul, and I got everyone over there and said, 'In case you guys don't know, he's (Peterson) scoring. Number 20 is his number, and let's somebody find him.' We had some defensive mixups, but a couple of times he made some big shots with somebody out there guarding him. But we had 'em outmanned, bottom line. They tried to do some things that would help them out with their abilities against our size, and that was take us to the basket, and they did a good job of that.

"I was amazed and shocked that Eddie (Sutton) had them play zone the whole game. We started telling our team, 'We think they'll do this, and we think they'll do that,' but finally at pre-game today I said, 'I have no clue.' They had seven days to prepare. Two games ago they pressed almost the entire game. Last game they played zone almost the whole game. So I told the kids I had no clue, and we'd just have to be ready to play regardless of what the other team did.

"Billy Thomas has had a couple of good games against them when they come up here to play us. I was trying to get him another basket there at the end, because somebody said he had 18 (one point shy of his career high), but he missed his only other one after that. Billy has struggled a little bit this year, hasn't made his shot and hasn't done the other things he needs to do on the defensive end to get him in the game more. I talked to him, and hopefully we turned a new leaf this semester, and we'll be able to get some more minutes for him. Because when he's shooting the ball in, he can shoot it in from way out there where people just won't go out to guard you.

"Kansas State has some big wins. They go down to Norman and win down there. They've got a good record. So we've got to play Sunday. We know Hatcher and Davis and those guys are playing great basketball, they're doing a great job on the defensive end of the floor, and it'll be a big game."

OSU coach Eddie Sutton - "I'm not sure this Kansas team isn't the best since I've been in the Big 8. I felt we had to play zone to be in the game. That (three-point shooting) must have been a high for them this season.

"We have played more zone against Kansas State and Kansas than we have in my career. But we don't have the personnel to guard LaFrentz and Pollard. If you're a good man-to-man team, you can play zone. But we're having trouble now.

"They have great depth and wear you down. I would be surprised if they lost a game in the conference. I'm not saying they won't lost to Missouir and Oklahoma on the road, but I'd be really surprised if they lost one or two games.

"I don't know about the players, but (being in last place) is hard on the coaches. I told my wife that this makes you appreciate the good times. But we're going to be ready for our next one, and we're going to win some games coming up."
