Having passed Phog last season to become the winningest head coach in KANSAS Men's Basketball program history, and trailing Roy by 87 wins to become the KANSAS coach with the most total career wins on the NCAA's ATW D1 Men's Basketball Coaching list, the only milestone Self can reach in AY2025-26 in terms of W-L record is to reach 11th place on the ATW D1 Men's Coaches list, passing
#13 Rollie Massimino (816 wins),
#12 Jim Phelan (830 wins) and
#11 Cliff Ellis (831).
As I write this on 2025-03-20, John Calipari (834) and Rick Barnes (834) are tied at #9, and #8 Adolph Rupp (876 wins) is too far ahead for any of the three active coaches to realistically pass him in AY2025-26.
1 = Wins remaining for Bill to pass former Villanova coach and NCAA Champion Rollie Massimino for sole claim to 13th place on the ATW D1 Men's Coaches list.
84 = Wins remaining for Bill to reach total career win #900
87 = Wins remaining for Bill to tie Roy as THE winningest KANSAS Head Coach for TOTAL CAREER
91 = Wins remaining for Bill to reach KU career win #700
The updated official NCAA KANSAS and CAREER W-L records for Bill Self, Phog Allen and Roy Williams are reflected below.

3. The above record for Self does not include the 15 wins from AY2017-18 vacated by the NCAA in 2022 for Silvio De Sousa's participation after SDS was retroactively declared ineligible to play in those games four years later because it was determined that De Sousa's American guardian was given $3,000 by an adidas rep (no member of the De Sousa family benefited). The records show the guardian did not want the money, but ended up donating it to a local school when the rep said he could not take the money back. This NCAA overkill came in spite of this same organization (I) giving Cam Newton a pass (when his dad was shopping him around) so Newton could play in - and win - the 2011 College Football championship game and the Heisman Trophy while at Auburn, (II) doing nothing retroactively against UCLA despite all the evidence available today that its program spent 15 years getting benefits from booster Sam Gilbert that would have resulted in severe penalties for the program throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, and (III) failing miserably to penalize The University of North Carolina for the decades long academics "coursework" scam from 1993 to 2011 that tar heels athletes, including those in its famed men's basketball program, used to remain academically eligible to play.
There is a reason the NCAA is called a joke to its face by college sports fans everywhere.

NCAA WON-LOST RECORDS OF WINNINGEST KANSAS MEN'S BASKETBALL COACHES

590-219 (.729) Phog Allen 746-264 (.739) #27 on the NCAA ATW D1 Head Coaches list @2025-11-03

3. The above record for Self does not include the 15 wins from AY2017-18 vacated by the NCAA four years later in 2022 for Silvio De Sousa's participation after SDS was retroactively declared ineligible to play in those games because it was determined that De Sousa's American guardian was given $3,000 by an adidas rep (no member of the De Sousa family benefited).

The win at the other Kansas school tied Self with Cliff Ellis for 11th place on the ATW D1 Men's Coaches list.
The next two coaches ahead of him are the only active coaches ahead of him -
#9 John Calipari: 850-280 as of today's games
#10 Rick Barnes: 849-429 as of today's games.
With 18 wins between Self and Barnes and 19 between Self and Calipari it is highly unlikely he will pass either of them while all of them are still coaching.
So for now next up is the current #8, Adolph Rupp at 876-190.
Nobody is passing Rupp this year, but he is the next fixed target that can be focused on.
45 = Wins remaining for Bill to tie Kansas alum and NMBHOF member Adolph Rupp (876-190) on the ATW D1 Men's Coaches list.
69 = Wins remaining for Bill to reach total career win #900
72 = Wins remaining for Bill to tie Roy as THE winningest KANSAS Head Coach for TOTAL CAREER
76 = Wins remaining for Bill to reach KU career win #700
