NOTE WELL -
• Wednesday 2024-05-01 is the LAST DAY for Men's Basketball Student-Athletes to ENTER this year's transfer portal in order to be eligible to play this fall without an NCAA waiver. Only exception will be for players who experience a coaching change at their current schools. They can still enter after the May 1 deadline if they do so within 30 days of that change taking place. With the coaching carousel about stopped, that means it's decision time for nearly all Division I players.
•
• WEDNESDAY 2024-05-29, 11:59 PM ET is the NCAA deadline to withdraw from the draft and retain eligibility, assuming no agent is hired or an NCAA certified agent is hired.

NOTE WELL --
• All KANSAS transfer commitments are signed but for Kugel. From all reports he is still strongly committed to playing for KANSAS, but is working through academic eligibility issues. Hopefully he can get those resolved with the recording of this term's grades.
• ASSUMING Kugel qualifies, KANSAS has used 12 of a possible 13 scholarships for AY2024-25, 13 counting Johnny Furphy.
• GIVEN that word of mouth is that the KU staff have hit something of a PAUSE button in active 2024 recruiting until after the NBA Draft withdrawal headline has passed, it is reasonable to assume that Self is holding #13 to see if Johnny returns. If not, expect him to use it for NBA draft testers who entered the transfer portal on time and have opted to return to college but possibly to a different school for one more season
STATS ARE FOR 2024 unless noted otherwise.

And the portal continues to fill up as the postseason winds down, coaches move and players look at where they want to be next fall.
Over 1800 entered it last year.
Expect similar large #s this time around.

Jayhawkslant.com: Riley Kugel commits
Hopefully he is better than his sophomore stats, which are not impressive.

Jeff Goodman @GoodmanHoops
There have been 1,142 players enter the transfer portal in the 15 days since it opened on March 18.
(That number includes walk-ons).
There are approximately 5,000 scholarship players in D-1 men's college basketball. My guess is about 1,000 have exhausted their eligiblity.
I'd guess that at least half of those that have eligibility remaining will wind up going portaling.

If Goodman is right it will be a new record IIRC -- over 2000 entrants.

Florida transfer Riley Kugel has been added at the top under the COMMITTED subtitle.
More names have been appended to the end of the list, starting with Hofstra junior SF Darlinstone Dubar. I like him, hope we can get him, especially if he can play as well on D as he seems to on O. He has to pronounce his name as if he were from Loo-zee-ana, right? Even though he is from Charlotte. NC...
He started his career at ISU, transferred to Hofstra after his freshman year.

Alabama’s best defender last year. Wanted to be a Jayhawk out of high school, KU went with MJ Rice.
Self wants this one, so I’ll be somewhat shocked if he doesn’t end up at KU. Great defender, shot maker from deep. Good size. Can guard multiple positions. Exactly what KU needs.

What’s the latest with AJ Storr?
shay
Kansas has been a major player for Wisconsin transfer AJ Storr since the 6-foot-7 wing hit the portal on March 28. Storr will also test the NBA Draft waters, but the expectation is that he’ll eventually return to college.
Should that come to fruition, Lawrence seems the overwhelming favorite to be his next destination provided the Jayhawks have room on the roster following NBA Draft declarations and other impending decisions.
Storr, who averaged 16.8 PPG as a Badger last season, is one of the most sought-after players in the portal. And while the fact that his close friend and women’s hoops standout Sania Copeland recently transferred from Wisconsin to KU could certainly be painted as a positive indicator for Bill Self’s pursuit of Storr, it’s not the only reason the Jayhawks seem to lead the sweepstakes. Storr may remain on the market for a bit, as he hopes to get feedback from NBA teams about his game, but certainly has one eye on KU as things stand.

OP this thread and the pinned Recruiting thread OP have been updated.
With Johnny gone draft testing, Bill still has 1 ride left.
Expect it to go to Rylan Griffen soon.
Then Bill will have a problem to solve should Johnny opt to return...

Family vacation, this one for the grownups.
Be back in Lawrence Sunday.
(Any snoopers, the house is occupied by house sitters and our dogs, so don’t even think about it! )
Second -
Change to transfer rules for grad transfers
Grad transfers now must enter portal by May 1
Used to be they could opt to transfer any time after graduation.
Seems like a stabilization move by the NCAA.
