Last week KU signed a 14 year, $191MM sponsorship deal with Adidas. According to Marchiony, KU has not been contacted by the investigators and the Adidas guy at the center of the scandal (Gatto) was not part of any KU negotiations. KU is the 2nd biggest Adidas deal behind Louisville. Louisville's deal is smaller ($160MM) but shorter (10 years) and more per year. I can't imagine Roberts or Townsend falling prey but Terrance Howard gives me pause. Let's hope KU is clean.

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!

Original notice of deal was posted here , along with more info on KU athletics funding.

Given the scandal announcement, it is good to have some space between KU and the subject(s) of interest at adidas. Thanks for this info, amigo!.

Also of note, I found this post on another board by a long-time poster with cred who reputedly has some inside connections with KU Athletics. When reading these comments, remember that so far (and let's hope it stays that way) KU has not been reported as on the FBI's suspect list. All the following can be found on Jayhawkslant's basketball board if you are a subscriber.

Scandal and KU

None of us know for sure if KU is involved in these scandals or not but some facts to consider:

- If the FBI has wire taps on an Adidas Rep, USC assistant and Arizona Assistant Coach who we recruited against to get Preston, you would think they would have evidence that KU paid to get him. But there appears to be nothing against us.
- We are an Adidas school (marquee one at that), so you would think we would have come up on some of the wire taps if we were playing this game, and we don't appear to even be mentioned. As big as we are, we would be the headline if we were ever mentioned.
- If FBI has wire tap on Adidas Rep, and Arizona assistant who we recruited against to get Josh Jackson, you would think they would have evidence against KU if we paid, but no mention. And remember this was a Nike vs Adidas war.
- If Alabama paid to get Sexton, you would think we would be mentioned as offering Sexton something to up the bid, but nothing was mentioned.
- We have lost a lot of recruits we were thought to lead for to Arizona.
- We have lost a lot of recruits to non-blue bloods we thought we led for.
- We have lost recruits to OK State we thought we led for (Smart).
- We in recent years have turned to getting transfers over recruits. Doubt you would go that route if you are paying players.

Again, I don't think we are involved and hope we are not, but nobody knows for sure. Fingers crossed.

Seems the target of the bribes are the assistant coaches per the articles. Brings up questions about what leads to the bribes, underpaid employees, dissatisfied employees, and/or just plain character flaws. It did not seem that long ago when HCBS received his last contract and salary boost where he also made sure there was additional money and benefits provided to his assistance. Maybe HCBS see something in the overall climate of College Basketball and was wanting to provide a "happier" and "satisfied" employee. Those two things help provide loyalty to the coach and the University.
