Sorry, Duke and UK (so not.)

Bamba's decision means there are only 3 Top 40 recruits still to choose where they will be going to school this fall --

#20 Brian Bowen (SF)

#24 MJ Walker (SG)

#37 Tremont Waters (PG)

Of course, if Svi returns, KU does not have a scholarship to offer.
If he doesn't, KU does have one left.
Here's
Matt Tait's article on the current situation.

With Svi's announcement that he intends to fully enjoy his Senior Night, all the rides for next year have been taken and KU's 2017-18 roster is set.

The OP has been updated to reflect the news.

Good decision, Svi!
Welcome back!

As long as the NCAA cleared (or would have cleared) Rivals 2017 #8 player Mitchell Robinson to play at WKU, he should be eligible to play for KU starting this fall.

Go get him, Bill!

NB: the recruiting OP has been updated to reflect the recent changes in the past month, noting Whitman's departure and adding Robinson's info to the OFFERED section.

DETAILS

Lot of talk about Rivals 2017 #8 Mitchell Robinson leaving WKU and visiting KU this weekend.
n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2017/mitchell-robinson-6680
Here's Tait's thoughts in yesterday's Tale of the Tait .

Robinson (C, 7-0, 222) originally committed to WKU because his godfather was an assistant there.

Although his godfather left before WKU's 2017 summer session began, Robinson started attending 2017 summer classes. Word is he only practiced with the team for a week, though, as he was considering transferring since his godfather had left.

Despite Tait's comments (if you read them), if all the requirements noted below have been met (and it looks like they have been), he should be able to play with a new school right away in accordance with the transfer rules outlined in the following sections of the NCAA Division I rules for 2017-18:

14.5.5.2 Exceptions for Transfers From Four-Year Colleges
Subsection 14.5.5.2.7 Two-Year Nonparticipation or Minimal Participation Exception.

Note that since announcing he was leaving WKU he already has visited previously projected favorite LSU (before KU got into the mix), but as of today (Saturday 2017-08-12) twitter is saying he is no longer considering LSU.

Found the NCAA rules info in a Rivals post today ( kansas.forums.rivals.com/threads/five-st...8/page-6#post-985064 if you have an account) and verified it in the NCAA Manual for 2017-18.

NCAA Division I Manual 2017-18

Subsection 14.5.5.2 Exceptions for Transfers From Four-Year Colleges
provides certain exception for Student-Athletes transferring to and from 4-year institutions.

A transfer student (other than one under disciplinary suspension per Bylaw 14.5.1.2) from a four-year collegiate institution is not subject to the residence requirement for intercollegiate competition, provided the student does not have an unfulfilled residence requirement at the institution from which he or she is transferring (except for the return to original institution without participation or with minimal participation exception) and any of the following exceptions is satisfied."

Subsection 14.5.5.2.7 (exception 7)
The student transfers to the certifying institution from another four-year college and, for a consecutive two-year period immediately before the date on which the student begins participation (practice and/or competition), the student has neither engaged in intercollegiate competition nor engaged in other countable athletically related activities in the involved sport in intercollegiate athletics beyond a 14-consecutive-day period, and has neither practiced with a noncollegiate amateur team nor engaged in organized noncollegiate amateur competition while enrolled as a full-time student in a collegiate institution. The 14-consecutive-day period begins with the date on which the student-athlete first engages in any countable athletically related activity (see Bylaw 17.02.1). The two-year period does not include any period of time before the student’s initial collegiate enrollment."

Facts as I am aware of them (please correct me if in error):

1. Robinson did not practice beyond a 14 day consecutive period while at WKU. This is potentially the muddiest area, as Tait noted that "reports have indicated that Robinson did, in fact, practice with the team in some capacity this summer". However, the initial report that broke the news that Robinson was transferring states that he had practiced with the team for a week in preparation for WKU's trip to Costa Rica. If he only did the one week, he should be good to go re: the "beyond a 14-consecutive-day period" requirement.

2. Robinson has not participated in other NCAA events or non NCAA practice or events while he was at WKU, and

3. Robinson had qualified (or would have qualified if a determination is still in process) to play this fall for WKU, i.e., he has no “unfulfilled residency requirement”

BOTTOM LINE and CONCLUSION

*If* I am understanding these rules correctly, and the facts are as stated above, the kid should be eligible to play for another 4 year school this fall.

Before today I was discounting this possibility, but as of today I'm feeling pretty good about it, folks.

ROCK CHALK!
