Possession analysis

"The one thing I was more pleased with than anything is that we got into it a little more defensively and got our break going; lost ourselves in the game a little bit. If you do that, you have a chance to be a good team.

"I was really pleased Nick Collison was all over the backboards, making his shots, and Kirk was unbelievable. I told everybody at halftime, I think Kirk Hinrich is the best guard in the country, and if he only shoots three times in the first half, that shows that he's unselfish, so some other people have got to take some better shots. I thought a couple of those we took in the first half weren't the best. But for the most part I was pleased. I thought we did gain something since last week.

"I have always thought that if you had one or two spurts during the game that it's really important to you, and we had two or three in the first half and again early in the second half. But Bob's (Chipman) gonna have a good club. They do some nice cuts off those screens. We had a difficult time staying with them. They got some open looks from three and made some of them.

"Nick had 15 points and 10 rebounds at half. Ten rebounds out of our 21. I challenged the guys, because somebody had to help him out on the backboards. Without Wayne in there, somebody else has got to step up and rebound, and Moulaye had zero and Jeff Graves had one. In the first half, our second leading rebounder was Michael Lee, and he only played four minutes.

"I was pleased with our shooting (60+%), but Moulaye three for seven. We don't need him shooting 15-foot fadeaways if you've got Kirk Hinrich on the court. Aaron took one shot that I didn't think he should take. Bryant Nash should have taken a couple more that he didn't take. Jeff Hawkins knocked in a couple of good threes, and he's a good shooter. But for the most part I was pleased with the way we shot the ball, I just didn't like a couple of the selections.

"(Holy Cross game in St Louis last year) was a great game if you just like basketball. I didn't like the way we played, but Holy Cross had a lot to do with that. Their zone bothered us, their aggressiveness offensively as far as moving the ball, moving the ball, milking the clock a little bit and getting the shot they wanted at the end of the shot clock was really effective for them. They played us very well. Ralph Willard is a heck of a coach. He's a good guy. They'll be ready, they'll be fired up because we gave them a great deal of confidence in that game. We've got to step up and play a lot better next week than we did in these two exhibition games."
