Season summary

"I wanted an intense game, and I got it. But I wanted it a little more effective down the line. Maybe that will help us in the long run.

"We were in a position to take care of the basketball and salt the game away, but we make mistakes and miss free throws and give them a chance to get back in it. And then after the regulation we didn't play very well in either one of the overtimes. We were really lucky to even get it into the second overtime. You can't make the kind of mistakes we made, mental and physical errors, and expect to beat a good team, and they are a very good team. They were enthused about playing. They made some big shots including the one right there at the horn at the end of the first overtime. It's the kind of thing you have to continue playing, you have to get a hand up in somebody's face, and we just didn't execute the way we needed to. I hope we can learn from this, and they're going to get an opportunity to watch it.

"Calvin came in the early part of the game and gave us a big lift, got our defense going, got us back in the game. Greg Ostertag did some nice things for us. But it's hard to find anybody else who played well, and it's hard to find a coach who coached well.

"Steve Woodberry scored seven points in the first overtime, but take away that and he didn't have a very good night. Steve's putting too much pressure on himself. He's just got to play the game and not worry about everything. He's just got to play.

"We got to play against some zone, which we know we're going to face Wednesday night (vs Temple). We got to play against a team that shoots a lot of three point shots, tries to dribble penetrate and pitch, and we'll face some of that.

"We didn't do a very good job defensively other than a couple of flurries. We had some breakdowns. Nobody should get layups against our man-to-man defense like they did. But hopefully we'll learn something from it.

"Fatigue wasn't a factor. Every scholarshiip player got over ten minutes. And I was trying to play some people down the stretch just to put them in those situation, hoping we'd do it well and still win, but that didn't work out. Hopefully, being in those spots will help us down the line.

"Temple will be the best team we've faced to date for sure. An outstanding basketball team. five starters back, went to the final eight last year. I think it could be the best team that's going to come into Allen Fieldhouse this year. And if we play like we did tonight, they'll get us by about 30."
