"We told our guys going in, ‘You’re going to shoot free throws, because they’re going to foul.’ And they did. They fouled a lot. We fouled too much ourselves. The difference was we played with a lead, and they had to foul. Fortunately for us, the majority of the guys stepped up to the free throw line and did a real good job of knocking them down. It was a great win for a lot of reasons. Certainly any time you win on somebody else’s floor, it’s a great win, and tonight was no exception.

"We played great (16-0 run to start second half), and then they went on a 7- or 8-0 run themselves to get right back to six or seven. But we played great. And we really didn’t play bad once we settled in. We played bad the first eight minutes, but fortunately for us we were only down four or five, and we had some guys step up and make some big plays. I thought Darnell was huge for us in the first half, and I thought Brandon kept us in the game early. Then the second half, those three guards – Russell, Mario, and Brandon – man, they played. Julian got his first start, and he did okay. But this was a game where they were knocking and banging, and he’s probably not quite as good at that as Darnell is. I thought everybody contributed and did well.

"Russell is playing well. He made a couple of threes early. And I took him out about three minutes into the game because I didn’t think he was guarding anybody. You look up and his man has seven points, then he had 11 with about three minutes left, so we did a real good job on him. And the zone slowed them down. We don’t ever play zone, but we knew with us being in the double bonus, they were just going to spread it and throw it to Joseph (Jones). And they were calling a lot of touch fouls inside, so we decided to do that, and it paid off.

"(Iowa State) is talented, we know that. I predicted that they’d win that (Missouri) game, so we’ll catch them when they’ve got a little confidence and are playing their best."
