"If we play anything in the first half like we tried to play the second half, then this would have been a ball game that was winnable and certainly could have gone our way, but it didn’t happen. We dug ourselves a hole, and guys tried the second half, made some good plays, made some bad plays, but at least the effort was there. The first half we played like we were shell-shocked. We played like a team that was the first time to play on the road against good players and good athletes, and they took it right to us. I’m happy that we fought, but it’s about as disappointing a night as we’ve had. This rivals the Iowa State game. The past 48 hours have really been bad.

"We tried to play Alex just because they made our big guys so ineffective, so we thought our only chance was to stretch the defense and drive it. That ’s what we did, and we actually did a decent job of that, but it was too little too late.

"We started the game off, we’re down 7-4, and one player had given them all seven points. Winning on the road is hard enough to do when you play five against five. It’s hard to win on the road when you give them layups by turning the ball over. I’ve got to take responsibility, because we’re not playing. I don’t know what’s happened in 48 hours, but we’re not playing a lick right now. We’re not trusting each other, and we’re not sharing. We talk a good game, but we’re not playing like it. I know it means a lot to these players, but we’re not trusting each other and doing what we’re supposed to do carrying out assignments. It will be good for us to practice some this week, because we haven’t had a chance to practice a lot.

"We did a good job on (Gray and Bookout), but we did a terrible job on Gilbert. You didn’t expect to give up 12 points to Gilbert and three offensive rebounds. But the guys who really wore us out were Everett and Godbold. When we went zone for three possessions in the first half, they made three threes. And we acted like we didn’t even know McKenzie was a good shooter, and that was our whole game plan, to make sure he didn’t get his feet set. It was just a combination of things. We just weren’t in it at all the first half for whatever reason, and certainly fought back hard in the second half, but just didn’t have enough gas in the tank to finish the job."
