There were a couple of things happening at the end that cost us going to overtime where who knows what would have happened, but we would have had a chance
1) We fouled very quickly on the inbounds passes for the first two inbounds. If Kohl had waited a heartbeat or two on the first one and we waited a heartbeat or two the second time, there would have been less time left. They did much better the third time at letting some time run off.
2) Taking Kohl out and putting Elmarko in was a questionable decision as Kohl was bringing a lot of energy to the final minutes. But Coach felt more conmfortable with Elmarko and I understand, but don’t agree with it.
3). DNP not showing to slow the progress definitely allowed for the clear lane without thought to the basket. I think forcing him to his right was correct for two reasons. I thought he was a left handed player, but I may be off on that and it forced him towards potential help in the person of DNP.
Regardless, this was yet another in a series of frustrating seasons. It was better in some ways as you could see the potential was greater with this team. I didn’t think the potential was as great in the last few years. The Hunter Dickenson teams never gave me much hope.
I wish we could have retained Zuby and felt that way when we signed Hunter. Retention of players is key to Self’s teams. They need to develop under him. He is better at that, it seems, than merging and melding disparate pieces from other teams.
Just my $.02

I completely agree with what you had to say here, Kong. It's when HCBS is at his best. And the fact that that is is strength is even better! He was like the anti-Calipari. Now he's forced to get into that short term mix that is the portal (and NIL). Sigh...

It'll feel better when it stops hurting
I think someone needs to consider offering players 3 year contracts. Yes, we will miss out on some of the 1 year 5 star players but they haven't done a whole lot for us anyway. That way Bill can develop his players like the 2022 team with a few adds. I think not having to deal with the stress of high maintenance players would be a plus for Bill.
I really, really liked this team without DP playing. I have nothing against DP, I am sure he'll be a star in the NBA but I seriously do not care about the NBA and who the #1 pick is. The team without DP, played freer and happier. They were fun to watch and they kept improving. I really hope we can hang on to Flory and Kohl
