"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
Call it the "Litter Box of Gloom".
Call it the "Octagon of Room" (tons of students disguised as empty seats).
Many students actually there deride their team by disguising themselves as bagheads (Students wearing ALDI paper bags over their heads).
Led by a soul who has lost his way and his temper.
Meltdown.
Is an $18M buyout enough to protect the job of this sad embarrassment of a man?
• ESPN: Jizzle James, Baba Miller lead the way as Cincinnati dumps Kansas State 91-62
In the Little Apple.
Cincy's first road win this season (1-5 B12, 1-6 season, plus 0-3 neutral for 1-9 away from home so far)
• ESPN: Kansas State's Jerome Tang goes off on his team after 29-point loss
• ESPN: Tang goes off after K-State loss: Players 'don't deserve to be here'
Yeah, this is the state they own - panic, fear, embarrassment and disgust.
Live large in that state, little brothers and sisters.
And KU's last game of the season is the AFH Senior Game against these stalwarts.
A game against frantic rats caught in the smallest of corners on the biggest of stages in college hoops.
Makes them dangerous for that game.
¡Cuidado!

"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot
They were "doomed" the minute the nicknamed their stadium something contrived and stupid. Allen Fieldhouse doesn't need a nickname. And those places that do have nicknames (i.e. "the House that Ruth Built", "the big house", "the mistake by the lake", etc.) don't self-select those nicknames. Even "the Cathedral of College Basketball" was gifted to us by a Dukie. When the marketing department self-selects a nickname, you know it's a joke.
Just like people. You don't pick your nickname, your friends or family start calling you something.
It's my understanding that military pilot call signs are selected by other members of their unit, and usually represent something embarrassing for the person its assigned to.
They are absolutely hitting rock bottom right now.

I really appreciate that Bilas coined "the Cathedral of College Basketball" to describe AFH.
I don't know who came up with it, but my favorite nickname for the Kansas program (not just AFH) is
"The Cradle of College Basketball".
KANSAS is not where basketball was born, but it very arguably is where it grew up.
• Naismith starting the program.
• Allen stressing coaching and always looking for ways to improve the game, with just one example being the NCAA Tournament.
• Rupp and TTSmith playing for Phog
• John McLendon, Jr being mentored by Naismith
• The three of them -- and many others most folks don't think of today (e.g., Dutch Lonborg and Ralph Miller) -- going on to become major figures impacting the sport of basketball.
Besides, I've missed the opportunity in the past, and I really hope I get the chance for one more National Title celebration where I can scream in loud internet letters "And the Cradle did ROCK CHALK!"
