I'm in a strange place. I'm not looking forward to KU games at all. I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm a fan of a pedestrian basketball program. The last nearly three years now have been awful.

I have to say, I find myself wondering what would happen if we got TJ Ozleberger or Nate Oats. And let me stress, I have been a HUGE fan of Bill Self. I just think it may be time to move on. Unless the rules change and kids can't just transfer like mad.

Who knows....

My thoughts exactly, replay.

In fact I used those exact words with hoshi *before* the game.

I attended the game hoping for a win, but praying our guys didn’t get blown out of the Phog. I never believed we would see what we saw last night. Gave me hope that this team is figuring out how to be a team with and without Darryn Peterson on the floor. They did it last night against a superb defensive and very good offensive team.

Here’s hoping Bill was right after TCU, that our guys are getting there as a team, and that Morgantown was quite simply the bugaboo it has always been even for the best team’s Bill has taken there.

My concern is even last years team had the blow out of UCF. 1 game does not a season make. As others have said if they can play with this kind of intensity consistently then the loses are easier to accept. Hopefully this team can keep getting better as they learn to integrate DnP into the collective. There were still a lot of unclean switches on defense that game that the Hawks were fortunate. ISU had an off shooting night, but the Hawks defensive intensity was there. I really liked Flory taking it off the dribble when the middle is cleared.

What I liked - but did not understand and appreciate until getting back home and getting to watch the halftime show which featured Norm Roberts - was the change in defensive switching strategy they employed last night.

KU has been switching all 5 positions on defense, leading to some significant mismatches that Big 12 opponents have been capitalizing on.

Last night KU changed to what Norm called a "32 defense" - the 3 guards switching among themselves and the same with the 2 bigs switching - which eliminated those mismatches. Still, as with anything new, it takes some time to implement and execute well. Hopefully last night was just the start of this new defensive strategy leading to KU wins.
