Last week it was announced the Chiefs will be leaving Arrowhead to play in KCK starting in 2031.
Answering a question about the move, Self said "I won't be coaching here [in 2031], so I won't benefit from it. What is it going to be like six years from now? So the bottom line is, it's great for the state."

Drawing from that comment, at most Self’s last season will be AY2030-31, his 28th at KU.
At most, the rest of this season plus 5 more for the HoF coach who has rewritten the KU record books.
I have hoped he would go for riding off into the sunset after his 30th season with KANSAS, but I reckon that ain’t a-gonna happen.
And that’s at most. He could always leave earlier.
But let’s go with the rest of this season plus 5 more for 28 seasons coaching KANSAS.
Over his KU career Self has averaged almost 28 wins a season (over 28 wins per season but for AY2017-18). His lowest win totals were 21 and 23 wins. So let’s project he averages 25 wins each season he has left, starting with this one.
25 x 6 =150 more wins in his career, leading to…
>750 wins at KU, where he is already the winningest coach in KU history.
>960 wins in his entire HC career, which could put him in the Top 3 winningest D1 Men’s basketball coaches, and within reach of becoming just the 3rd D1 men’s coach to record 1000 wins behind K and Boeheim (all assuming he passes Rick Barnes and John Calipari, the only active D1 men’s coaches ahead of him).
Would such a possibility entice him to continue until he completes 30 years at KU?
Or maybe another NC in the process?
Trailing only Wooden (10), K (5) and Rupp (4); tied with Knight, Calhoun and Roy?
Or 2 NCs to tie Rupp?
One never knows, do one?
Ah, perchance to dream…
