"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
(Sing it to the tune of the Bobby Helms classic... you know the smash seasonal single I'm talking about...)
Rock chalkin' around Mount Oread on a cold December Day.
Davidson Wildcats are in town and tonight they're going to play
Another game against ol' KU, may our Jayhawks win this fight
on another KU MEN'S BASKETBALL...
... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
Yes, JAYHAWKS fans, our AP#17 Kansas Jayhawks (#16 overall per KenPom, and #8 KenPom defense) host those pesky Wildcats of Davidson in "THE PHOG" Monday night at 7 PM CT on ESPN+. Does "Davidson" curry any favorite thoughts in your Jayhawk basketball fan brains?
KU and Davidson have played just 3 times, with KU having the edge 2-1 thanks in no small part to stalwart Jayhawks defenders preventing Steph Curry from getting the ball so he could take what would have been the game winning three point shot in Detroit Michigan back in March 2008. Since then the two programs have played twice in December in KCMO, with Davidson winning in 2011 and KU winning in 2016. Having traveled to KC twice before to play KU, the Wildcats finally get a chance to play in historic Allen Fieldhouse. (Link to KU v Davidson history)
Last time out the 8-3 Wildcats (overall #120 in KenPom ratings) lost at home (Davidson, NC) to All Time Winningest Program #6 Temple (KenPom #149) 83-63. The Wildcats' other two losses were to the now 10-2 Gaels of St. Mary's (KenPom #33, played in Davidson) and the now 10-1 Utah State Aggies (#30 KenPom) on a neutral court in the Charleston Classic.
All of this suggest that KU will have a very good result in AFH on Monday.
And reflecting this, ESPN analystics have KU winning over 95% of the time (Link)

and to the kuleanplayer for those who want to listen to the Jayhawk Network call with the TV sound off- but it is ESPN+, so the talking heads are Steven Davis and Wayne Simien!.
HC Bill Self today on Darryn: "...the situation is, and I’ve said it all along, when he’s ready, he’s ready. So we’ll just wait and see how that goes."
HCBS is happy with the health of everyone else.
Which means, at least in my book.- DP is DnP again.

This team is really gelling, quite remarkably so in the absence of everyone's #1 NBA draft pick next June.
All five starters scored in double figures, Kohl added 13 off the bench to lead a bench that added 23 points to the final KU tally, and everyone hustled for boards (42 to DU's 31). What was really impressive to me is that no KU player got a double-double in this game, with Melvin coming closest with his 10 points and 9 assists. I really like seeing the work spread around!
PTS Player(s)
18 White, Bidunga
13 Rosario
11 Tiller
10 Council, McDowell
KANSAS
90 points
37-64 fg 58% (DU 36%)
11-21 3p 52% (DU 37%)
5-5 ft 100%
42 Treb (8 Oreb, 34 Dreb)
27 Assists on 37 fgm
15 turnovers by KU to 16 by Davidson (who averaged 10 a game before tonight)
13 steals (4 WHite, 2 each Tiller, Bidunga, Council and Dawson)
5 blocks by 4 players
5 PFs (Davidson was only called for 7)
NB: Tonight was the final ESPN+ game on the schedule.
NEXT UP - KU begins B12 play v Johnny Dukie's, er Dawkins'
UCF Knights in Orlando, Florida
SAT 1:00 PM CT on PEACOCK
Hope you get to see it, y'all.
FYI KU will have one other game on PEACOCK - at OkState on FEB 18.
UNTIL NEXT TIME -- MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Was at the game with Daughter #3. Good crowd but we missed the student presence. Had Davidson fans around us but we all behaved. Two young men drove up from Dallas. Their father attended Davidson. Another was on the track team at Davidson and was there with a Rockhurst friend. Crowd began to empty early. The alumni band was super. Great to see kids from the Boys and Girls Club get free Christmas bikes at half-time. KU team speed is very noticeable and the offense is getting better. Happy to see Mibiya actually look less awkward. The game is slowing for him. Still needs to be decisive going up. He will get fouled a lot. Kohll looked good but still tends to rush his shot but is coming around. Has a little Braun in him.
