(Sing it to the tune of Dean Martin's "Houston"...)

Well, the 'Hawks are back On The Hill!
Looking to give their fans a thrill.
Build that win streak to 3.
No place they'd rather be.than
In "THE PHOG" playing Towson.
Towson.
Towson...
on another KANSAS JAYHAWKS MEN'S BASKETBALL...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Yes, JAYHAWKS fans, our crimson & blue boyz in the Oread hood are back in "THE PHOG" for another opportunity to excel and entertain!

Visiting Allen Fieldhouse & playing on James Naismith Court for this game are the Tigers of Towson University located in Towson, Maryland, just 10 miles north of Baltimore (Balmer for any Marylanders reading this).
Wikipedia: Towson University Men's Basketball

The 6-4 Tigers are looking for their first road win of the season (0-3 so far), but AFH is 99.9% NOT the venue to be in to earn that. In fact ESPN analystics have KU winning over 95% of the time, with the spread over 17 points in KU's favor.

Here's the history of the series, which KU leads 3-0, . The programs first met in 2006, and the most recent game was 2013.

HC Bill Self today on DnP: "I have no idea [what his status will be on Tuesday]. We didn't practice yesterday. I just saw him in the hallway and he's going to lift right now with the guys. And so we'll practice later. But, but obviously he had some, not hamstring, based on what I was told, but some quad cramping there. To me, you guys saw the game, it was evident that he wasn't moving at the pace that he's got to move at, the way people are going to guard him and that stuff. So it was obviously bothering him."

Here's a link to the KUAthletics.com pregame article
The article contains links to the pregame KANSAS Notes
and to the kuleanplayer for those who want to listen to the Jayhawk Network call with the TV sound off (once again, it's ESPN but it's not Fran!).

By the way...

You read right, this game is NOT on ESPN+!

It's on ESPN2!

I had to double check when I saw that.

You will also note (should you check it out) that the media information for the pinned KU MBB AY2025-26 Schedule & Results thread has been updated to reflect the known media information as of today.

Good game. To me the two things I was looking for were 1.) to see if Melvin could continue to perform at a high level (maybe not 36 *corrected from my previous post, thanks USAF*), and 2.) to get the bench guys some decent playing time.

Both happened. While we certainly can't expect Melvin to have a career game every night, his 15 points in only 28 minutes and 3-6 from three shows me that he's playing with confidence and that it's likely that he'll be somebody we can rely on. Also good to see 4 guys out of 6 bench guys got at least 14 minutes each.

I'd say give Peterson another night off on Monday so he can get almost 3 weeks of recovery time between his last game and the start of league play.

Concur on all points, NotO.

DNP DP until B12.

Keep getting more PT for the supporting cast. It *should* pay off in the very near future.

Sticking points for me -

1. Need to do better on the boards, especially DR. Gave up way too many OR to Towson.

2. Dawson and Rosario - both supposed to be shooters, neither displaying any skill at it (JD 1-6, 0-3 3pt; KR 1-6, all 3s). Team was 7-15 from 3 without them. Stage just too big for JD & KR right now? Mechanics? Will they have their breakout Dawg games similar to Mel (I feel good about him continuing going forward) or more like Elmarko (the one great game in LV, not much else before or since)?

Davidson game should be a nice final noncon, a chance for them to “show their quality” as Master Samwise would say.

This team is so much more of a standard Kansas, HCBS team than what we have had the last couple years. Even without DnP they play very good defense. I was a bit surprised to see the esteemed Corpus pointing out that statistically the Hawks are even better defensively with DnP on the court. Hopefully the Hawks can get better at rebounding. It looked to me that in the Towson game appeared to be stronger hands IMO. I really hope DnP can get his health issues behind him, once the conference season starts, as I am sure all Hawks fans do. I think this team can be pretty good even without DnP. I worry how this team handles bigger/heavier post players. I would love to see the progression of Corpus' player analysis since the breakout game for Melvin Council Jr.

So annoyed at ESPN. Missed the first 5 minutes because (I'm guessing) the previous game went long. Switching it to ESPN news (I can only guess they did because that's what they normally do) doesn't help when you're out and recording the game. It's happening way too often...why can't they stagger the start times to prevent this...let the talking heads talk more if the first game ends on time.

#sigh
