Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!
Most teams still have 2 or 3 or 4 games to play in the non-conference schedule and conference play is still over 3 weeks away. But it is still fun to see where we stand in the projected conference race. The chart below uses the DPPI to project the probabilities of all of the games and the final standings for the Big 2 race. It's back to a 16 game conference season which makes more sense to me. As of games through Dec 9th, KU is projected as the 5th place finisher in the Big 12. I am hoping that Darryn's return will mark a steady improvement in KU's rating. Right now, Arizona and Iowa State are battling it out for the top spot with Arizona gaining a slight edge at present. Here is the projection.

"It's back to a 16 game conference season"
You mean 18-game conference season. Down from 20 last season. We play everybody at least once (15 games) and 3 a second time (Moo U, Arizona, and the Clones). Lucky us that we get the top two teams twice.

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
Hoping the old adage “steel sharpens steel” applies to KU this season, having to play them both twice - much less the overall gauntlet that is the Big 12 this year.
