KU 90 Louisville 82
Darryn Peterson played as expected.
With DP, Flory Bidunga, Tre White and Melvin Council Jr on the floor the D was excellent. Maybe more importantly, it was also strong when they weren’t. Several minutes in H2 when 3 of the 4 were on the bench and the only real drop off was on O, not D. Even so, KU controlled the last 30 minutes of the game. Answered every UL attempt to come back.
If … IF UL is as good as their preseason ranking this was a very impressive win on THEIR court. The feel vs last two years was TOTALLY different on D. I never quite shook off last year’s Arkansas debacle.
DP scored almost all of his points H1. It seemed to me he sat a lot H2, giving Jackson and McDowell lots of opportunities while he did, and they played very well.
RS freshman F Tiller looked really good, too. Really solid on D and some nice movement and spacing on O.
NOTE WELL - our bigs love to dunk.
Rosario started and was solid on D but off on O. Hopefully his shot will come around because his feel for the game otherwise seems good.
Only scholly players who I did not see get in were freshmen Samis Calderon and Corbin Allen and graduate transfer Nginyu Ngala.
Talk is Allen may redshirt, but that would not stop him from getting PT in an exhibition game. We will have to see, eh?
All in all a very promising feeling after this game, especially after last year
