Shay Wildeboor, Senior Writer running Rivals JayhawkSlant Allen Fieldhouse forum, wrote about Darryn Peterson on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 (link to article)...

And I will preface my summary with the comment that Shay is a straightshooter and not prone to hyperbole or "swagging". If he commits something to the record, he's got good reason to do so. Having said that, here's my recap of the article.

_______
Having watched Peterson in person and in games online, Shay has no doubts that Peterson is something "very, very, very special." He notes that while at Prolific Prep, Peterson went head to head with AJ Dybantsa twice, outscoring him both times and Prolific Prep winning both games. He also led PP to victory over the Boozer twins.

In his opinion, none of the #1 recruits that signed with KU in the Self era have arrived as "ready and able to have the type of impact that Peterson will have this season. DP has everything needed to be the absolute best the game has to offer."

DP's goals
Improving every aspect of his game
helping Kansas win
putting on a show with his teammates (emphasis mine - HE)

DP is "an absolute dog". (emphasis mine - HE)

Shay noted that Self recently called DP a "generational player" and Shay thinks DP will live up to that assessment.
_______

Also, for those who missed it the first time, or have simply forgotten or written it off as hyperbole, I remind you of the comments of LeBron James' high school coach Dru Jones, who said of Peterson "He's the best since LeBron... I’ve seen a whole lot of them. I had a couple that have gone on and played in the league, too, like Malaki (Branham, San Antonio Spurs). Malaki is great, but Darryn is the best that I’ve seen since LeBron.”
'He's the best since LeBron:' James' former coach gives huge compliment to Darryn Peterson. by Todd M. Adams, USA TODAY High School Sports, February 20, 2025

My fellow RCBers, Self & Company may not land another big impact player with his last two open roster spots to add to the extant roster for next season. But if Peterson is truly as good as everyone thinks he is? With a solid supporting cast that is projected to be a very strong defensive team (thank you, thank you, thank you, Self & Co and the basketball gods)?

Next season projects to be one Rock Chalk! of a ride!
