This is very possible, according to Shay Wildeboor at Rivals' JayhawkSlant earlier this evening.
I find nothing else anywhere on this, but am keeping a weather eye out for it.

247Sports Phog Net: What I'm hearing about the BB staff and what moves are next
Says things are already pretty far along with KU/Vaughn; he is the most likely person to fill the vacant role on Self's staff. “Vaughn was a well thought of coach in the NBA whose experience would be quite valuable.”
Chase Buford has gone from analyst to earning the assistant coach title. A very successful head coach in Australia (Sydney Kings) and won their NBL (2 straight!) A strong coaching resume.
Also hearing Fred Quartlebaum, KU’s Director of Basketball Operations is not expected to return to KU.
There could be some additional shuffling with the staff that he is currently not able to write about.
