"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
I know not all of you pay regular attention to the pinned threads, and most prefer not to comment in them to keep things as neat as possible, so here is a copy of the Top 25 ATWP as it stands before the start of the NCAA, NIT and new College Basketball Crown tournaments. Hope you enjoy it. As always, please let me know if you have questions or spot what seem like errors (they just might be, even though I try to be >cough<>cough< practically perfect in every way.
)
• First, the Top 25 ATWP standings after the last weekend before the NCAA Tournament begins. Aside from #2 Kansas ceding one win (so far) from both front running UK and #3 UNC, the biggest thing of note is that both #6 Temple and #7 Syracuse, despite not having good seasons, reached the 2000 wins circle, Syracuse for the second time in its history. Next of note is that Purdue passed one-time blue blood and B1G rival Indiana to finish the regular season in 10th place. Next notable would be the revival of #9 St. John’s, as it gained 15 wins on cratering #8 Notre Dame to stand just 6 wins back from the Fighting Irish (so far). Finally, #15 through #19 BYU, Utah, Arizona, Western Kentucky and Villanova all reached the 1900 wins circle in AY2024-25.
• Second, it’s post season time, where big gains (or losses) can be made in the standings. See the codes next to the program names to see who's dancing in the NCAAT, NIT (no one in the Top 25 ATWP), or the new College Basketball Crown Tournament (CBCT link 1, CBCT link 2) - and who is not. (I am assuming the NCAA will include CBCT games in all participating programs official W-L records. If it turns out the NCAA will not, I will edit those program records as needed to agree with the official NCAA W-L records.)
• It has not been a great season for many of the Top 25 ATWP. Only 13 of the Top 25 made the NCAAT, with #3 UNC and #14 Texas squeaking in as 11 seeds playing in the First Four.
• Of the 12 Top 25 ATWP that did not make the NCAAT, despite contractual agreements between their respective conferences and the CBCT, WVU and Indiana declined both NIT and CBCT bids. Both programs were listed in the NCAA Selection Committee's First Four Out, along with Ohio St and Boise St.
• Top 25 ATWP Cincinnati, Utah and Villanova accepted CBCT bids.
• Twelve of the ATWP had sub .600 W-L records this season. All but one of them did not make the NCAAT, the sole exception being 11 seed Texas. Four of the Top 25 ATWP actually had losing records this season - Syracuse, Notre Dame, Washington and Penn.

1. The table shows the official record for KANSAS, reflecting the 2023 NCAA IRP vacating of 15 wins from the KANSAS 2017-18 season for those 20 games in which retroactively declared ineligible Silvio De Sousa played.
2. The table shows the official NCAA record for Syracuse, which excludes the 101 wins the NCAA vacated in 2015. If those wins had not been vacated Syracuse would be #5 with over 2100 wins.
