The OP has been updated as of today (2024-04-30).

The OP was updated to reflect KU transfer status thru the end of April.

At this point Bill Self has all 13 rides accounted for if you include Johnny Furphy. With all the newcomers except Riley Kugel signed, the only immediate questions are will Furphy return (signs are good he won’t, but it’s not a lock yet, so…) and will Kugel qualify?

Since all accounts are that he wants to be a Jayhawk and the signing holdup is all about his academics, I would not expect to hear anything until his spring semester grades are in.

Looking at the UF academic calendar, grades are due in Monday May 6.

Is it possible he will need summer school to qualify? No clue here.

From the 247Sports article linked below—Over 1,900 players entered the transfer portal for the 2024 cycle. This included the final round of super COVID seniors; because of this it is unlikely that the record number of transfer portal entries set in 2024 will be topped.

247Sports.com

Rivals.com

KU’s guys
NAME 247S RIVALS CBS
AJ Storr 4 11 4
Zeke Mayo 25 4 10
Rylan Griffen 39 55 20
Riley Kugel 113 118 68

Looking at these rankings it is easy to see that there are *lots* of uncommitted, high quality players still out there. Reckon we’ll still get to 13 fills if the right fit emerges after May 29.

Given the long and strong history of jazz in KC, if it turns out KU has the ride to give, a part of my music loving soul would love to see this guy “make music” on the court just down the road from Kansas City in his last season in college.

From the 247Sports rankings -

28. Coleman Hawkins
Old school: Illinois

Hawkins averaged 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 36.9% from 3-point range in 2023-24 for an Illinois team that reached the Elite Eight and finished 29-9. With four seasons of Big Ten experience under his belt, Hawkins is a proven stretch big man with some defensive versatility.

1. Shay Wildeboor (JayhawkSlant) reports that despite reports this guy has committed to to Virginia Tech, UT-San Antonio PG Jordan Ivy-Curry is having a Zoom call with KU today. From the Hokie report yesterday that says he has committed --
"He has always been a very high-volume player, with a good ability to drive and get sent to the free-throw line (where he converts well), and while he hasn't always been hyper-efficient, stepping back his usage with a good surrounding cast could allow him to blossom."

Will be interesting to learn what the story is given the Hokie report was just published yesterday.
Did Ivy-Curry commit and then get a potentially better offer?
Has KU learned that it is unlikely Kugel will qualify?
Inquiring minds want to know!

2. It is absolutely 100% meaningless, but Joey Brackets has his latest ESPN 2025 Bracketology report out, and as a Jayhawk fan you gotta love it!
Favored to be the overall 1 seed. KANSAS
First Team Out: the meth eaters
In the Next Four Out: the kitties and their jackass braying EMAW! EMAW!* fans

3. For those who asked,^ Michael Swaim (PHOG/247Sports) does a look back at how last year's KU transfers out fared during the past season.

*Again I ask, why? Just why? And why have a bray that excludes the women?
At least F* KU is clear, honest and all-inclusive of their fanbase.
EMAW?!?
I tell ya, folks, them people could be used for radiation shielding!

^For any Babylon 5 fans out there, you already know Commander Susan Ivanova reports
"For those who asked --
Absolutely nothing happened in Sector 83 by 9 by 12 today.
I repeat, nothing happened in Sector 83 by 9 by 12.
Thank you!"

ROCK CHALK!

Excellent article. 8)

On May 2 I posted links to Transfer Portal player rankings after the window to enter the portal closed on May 1.

Here is a link to 247Sports.com's TEAM rankings, titled "College basketball transfer portal team rankings: Arkansas, Kentucky rise in updated top 20 as window closes" by Cody Nagel. It is NOT listed as a VIP article, so (in the words of the exorcist in "Poltergeist") all are welcome.

KU comes in at #2.

And here is a nice ESPN article to bookmark for future updates -
ESPN: Men's NCAA basketball 2024-25 roster moves, transfers, recruits
Again, all are welcome.

Have a great day!
(And don't overdo the Cinco de Mayo partying! ;) :woohoo: B) )

All quiet on the Kansas front since yesterday.

Nothing of interest for our forum (at least to your humble poster) overnight, not on Rivals or 247Sports or ESPN.

More later on potential transfers.

Addendum - I probably should have noted that Rice sophomore G Noah Shelby begins his unofficial visit to KU this morning. ESPN.com - Noah Shelby stats

Not really a KU scholarship caliber player.
Averaged 12 minutes a game last season at Rice, started 1 game, only averaged 3.9 shooting 35% (33.5% from 3pt). His only excellent stat is 85% FT (17/20).

Friends with Rylan Griffen, expected to get look at walk-on at best.

With comments on what the top 10 teams (and a couple other notable ones) in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings are still aiming for in the portal.

The origin post was updated to reflect the KU consideration of Noah Shelby, whom Shay at JayhawkSlant believes will commit as a walk-on sometime this week.
