Lend an ear and I’ll tell you
the truth of the tale who’s
the source of success for the best.
Both UK and the tarred heels
Know the deep KU well
From which sprang their storied success.

Ol’ Phog Allen.
He coached Rupp and Smith by name.
Now three iconic
buildings bear their names.

Yes, KU hosts
UK in the Phog –
that’s right...
See Saturday Game Day,
and an In The Phog...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
Okay, it starts in the light, but it will end in the night!

Our Big 12 leading #5 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (17-2, 6-1 Big 12) take a break from the conference race to shoulder their portion of the Big 12 load in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, hosting the Kansas descendant program Kentucky Wildcats. The #12/13 Wildcats (16-4, 6-2 SEC) come in looking to continue their historical (but I’m hopefully confident fading) series dominance of our Jayhawks, but current head coach John “Squid” Calipari (a former Kansas assistant coach himself, in fact his first job as a college coach was under first Ted Owens and then Larry Brown) has had limited success against KU.

2343 All Time Wins for Kentucky
2340 All Time Wins for Kansas

SO what does all this mean?

Well – IT’S COLLEGE GAME DAY IN THE PHOG on ESPN Saturday morning at 10:00 AM Central of course!

Set your DVRs if you can’t be home to see it on the TV!

IF you are in or near Lawrence AND WANT TO ATTEND COLLEGE GAME DAY, the doors to AFH will be open (starting at 8:45 AM, free admission!) for the live showing (10:00-11:00 AM) and recording of ESPN’s Saturday Game Day show. Students can enter at Gate 2 (northeast corner of AFH) and the general public can enter at Gate 11 (south side of AFH).

Wotta revoltin' development!

Hawks lose, Chiefs lose
There goes all the merriment!

Ochai COVID, Remy not ready,
Neither is Bobby or Zach -- steady now!

Time for others to prove they are worthy,
To step up into the spotlight bright
As the Hawks go to Ames,
on the national stage
for another ESPN...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
Okay, it starts in the light, but it will end in the night!

Our Big 12 leading #10 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (17-3, 6-1 Big 12) returns to Big 12 play as they travel to Ames to take on the #20/22 ISU Hawkeyes (16-5, 3-5).
KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES, 185-66
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 96-16 (55-10)
Ames, Iowa (Hilton Coliseum) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .71-40 (27-22)
Neutral Sites . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18-10
Big 12 Play . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 37-12
Big 12 Championship (Sprint Center) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3-3 (1-3)

Ochai Agbaji is out due to COVID-19 protocols, Remy is 60-70%, Bobby Pettiford is not 100% and Zach Clemence is still unable to play. Should be an interesting game, and I have to believe that it is ADVANTAGE Cyclones.

Here's to our Jayhawks beating the odds and winning Tuesday to ensure they maintain their sole place atop the Big 12.

AND -- for Bill Self to earn total career win #747, which will see him pass the great Phog Allen on the Division 1 career wins list and tie John Beilein for #21!

6:00 PM CT on ESPN
Game voices for ESPN will be Rich Hollenberg (play-by-play) and Fran fraschilla (analyst).

The Jayhawk Network Radio crew will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst).
Jayhawk Game Day Live coverage on ESPN+ with Dave Stewart and Jeff Gueldner starts at 5:30 CT, with post game JGDL coverage on after the game.

DON'T FORGET that you can listen to the home crew on kuathletics.leanplayer.com/ .
And you can listen to the Crimson & Blue Show pregame (5:30 PM CT) and postgame at the link as well!

The ESPN pregame prediction favors KU to win 60.8% of the time. The spread: 1.5 points in KU's favor.

I point out, though, that those projections apparently do not include the information that Ochai is out and Remy is just 60-70%. The actual latest spread favors ISU by 4.5 points.

Jayhawk time
To play a while
In shades of Crimson & Blue.

The bum steers are there
the stench in the air
they can't help being tu.

It's Jayhawk time!
Dream with me a while...

on another ESPN...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Our Big 12 leading #10 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (19-3, 8-1 Big 12) travel past the Austin City limits to take on the #23/21 shorthorns of tu (17-6, 6-4) for the first (and perhaps the last?) meeting in Austin with former TTech coach and tu alum Chris Beard at the helm.
KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES, 35-11
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18-2 (16-2)

And you can listen to the Crimson & Blue Show pregame (7:30 PM CT) and postgame at the link as well!

The ESPN pregame prediction favors those bum steers to win 58.8% of the time... but the latest spread is EVEN !

And CorpusJayhawks' DPPI has the horns by a point (although he personally likes KU by 5)

Still no Remy anticipated, Bobby Pettiford is not 100% but may see some time as he did against Baylor, and Zach Clemence is still booted up last I've read. It is ADVANTAGE bum steers, if for no other reason than Chris Beard ain't no Shaka Smart.

Here's to our Jayhawks beating the odds and winning Monday to further tighten their grasp on first place in the Big 12.

West Virginia ain’t almost heaven for Bill Self’s KU teams.
He’s got 6 “L”s and 3 Wins there, which goes against the scheme.

This year the Mountaineers are not the feared team of the past,
It’s looking like they’ll end this Big 12 season stuck in last.

DON'T FORGET that you can listen to the home crew on kuathletics.leanplayer.com/ .
And you can listen to the Crimson & Blue Show pregame (5:30 PM CT – early start per the listing, which shows game coverage starting early at 6:30) and postgame at the link as well!

The ESPN pregame prediction favors KU to win 69.5% of the time, with a spread of 4.5 favoring KANSAS.

And CorpusJayhawks' DPPI has KU by 5.2 with a slightly lower 66.9% probability of of KU winning.

Still no Remy, and no real target date for his return. It’s beginning to look like his only KU season will be a lost season. :(

Here's to our Jayhawks adding another mark in the W column and maintaining their 2 game lead in the L column for first place in the Big 12 with just 5 KU games to go in the regular season.

Sunflower Showdown, edition two
for year Two Thousand Twenty Two.
Manhattan saw edition one
which thankfully our Jayhawks won.
'Cats in The Phog on Tuesday night?
The 'Hawks should handle that all right.
They just have to bring the strong, strong fight
Magic #? 3! Have a great...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Our Big 12 leading #5/5 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (22-4, 11-2 Big 12) host the Kansas State Wildcats (14-12, 6-8 ) in part two of this season's Sunflower Showdown. You will recall that the 'Cats were layin' the wood on our boys for much of the Manhattan game before our lads finally got their stuff together late. KU finished by scoring 9 points in the last 3 minutes (Big Dave going 2-2 from the stripe with 1:38 to go, and game hero Ochai hitting 5-6 FTs and a twofer for 7 points, 6 in the last minute) while holding the 'Cats scoreless for the last 3:07 of the game to win 78-75.
KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES, 202-94
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse)	92-35 (51-18)
Manhattan, Kan. (Bramlage Coliseum)	81-48 (29-5)
Neutral Sites 29-11
Big 12 Play 45-6

COACHING RECORDS

Bruce Weber vs. Kansas (all against Self)
Total 3-19 (0-9 AFH, 3-7 Bramlage, 0-3 Big 12 T)
In other words, Weber's Wildcats have NEVER won in Allen Fieldhouse, and THIS IS NOT THE SEASON FOR THAT STREAK TO END!

8:00 PM CT on ESPN
Game voices for ESPN will be Rich Hollenberg (play-by-play) and FranFraschilla (analyst).

The Jayhawk Network Radio crew will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst).

And you can listen to the Crimson & Blue Show pregame (7:30 PM CT) and postgame at the link as well!

The ESPN pregame prediction favors KU to win 91.2% of the time, with a spread of 12 favoring KANSAS.

As I post this CorpusJayhawk has yet to publish his DPPI prediction.

Looks like still no Remy. He saw limited practice (full contact but small number of reps) on Thursday and Friday, but there is still no timetable for his return after missing the last 6 KU games due to the bone bruise in his right knee. And Self is planning as if he won't be back. :( KUSports.com - Tait: Kansas coach Bill Self says Remy Martin returned to practice late last week, timetable for return remains unknown

No updates on Big Dave's foot or Bobby's stomach strain, but they -- and everybody else from all I can find -- will be available to play Tueday night against the Wildcats.

KANSAS is currently --
(1) A full game up on Baylor, who is 11-4 after beating OKSt in OT Monday night, 2 back from KANSAS in the L column, and
(2) 1.5 games up on 10-4 Texas Tech, who host the Sooners on Tuesday night.

KANSAS' Magic Number is 3.
Three KANSAS wins with 5 games left and a tie for the Big 12 title is guaranteed.
Any combination = 3 of KANSAS wins with Baylor losses, and KANSAS wins with Tech losses means a least a tie for the title for Ol' KU.
DO NOT LOSE SIGHT OF TEXAS TECH BECAUSE YOU ARE FOCUSING ON BAYLOR!
Tech is still very much in this race!

Here's to our Jayhawks making that Magic Number drop from 3 to 2 with a convincing 10th straight win in as many games over Weber's Wildcats IN THE PHOG!

KANSAS on the Brazos – BIG GAME!
WE GOT THIS!
ESPN Game Day crowd -- insane!
WE GOT THIS!

Big Dave’s foot is hurting
LET’S GO!
Rem’s still on the mend
LET’S GO!
Bobby P is done! :(
LET’S GO!
But the 'Hawks intend to WIN!
LET’S GO!

KU’s Magic Number’s set at 2!
WE GOT THIS!
The ‘Hawks win two there’s nothing foes can do!
WE GOT THIS!

So bring it on the Brazos!
ROCK CHALK!
With all your skill and might!
JAYHAWK!
Run and gun, cut 2 to 1
KU!
Earn it on...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Our Big 12 leading #5/5 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (23-4, 12-2 Big 12) journey south to the Brazos River, home of the #10/11 Baylor Bears (23-5, 11-4) with ESPN College Game Day in the house. With a two (2) game lead in the Loss column over both BU and #9/9 Texas Tech (22-6, 11-4) with just 3 games to go after this one (2 games left for both BU and Tech), a Win on the Brazos would (1) trim KU’s Magic Number to 1 and (2) leave Baylor 3 games back in the L column and essentially vying for a shot at 2nd place, while (3) Tech would have second place all to itself 2 games behind KANSAS in the L column with a win in Fort Worth in the 5:00 pm game on ESPN2 – *or* be in the same boat as Baylor if TCU can pick up the win at home. Both the teams we want to win tomorrow night are the underdogs, so LET’S GO 'DOGS!

(Note well - Some of the KU Pregame Notes summary totals are wrong, I’ve used the correct totals here, based on the Kansas-Baylor Series listing on page 42 of the Notes - HE)
KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES, 35-7 (2-0 before the Big 12, 33-7 Big 12)
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse)	18-1 (17-1; the 1951 KU win was before AFH; first AFH win was 1966)
Waco, Texas (Ferrell Center) 14-4 (14-4)
Neutral Sites 2-2 (2-1 Sprint Center, 0-1 OKC)
Big 12 Play 31-5
Big 12 Championship (Sprint Center)	2-2 (2-1 Sprint Center, 0-1 OKC)

COACHING RECORDS

Scott Drew vs. Kansas Total 6-27

Note: Remember that Self and Drew both started in their current roles with the AY2003-2004 Big 12 season.
FWIW stat: Roy was 6-1 against Baylor from 1997 to 2003 (3-0 AFH, 3-1 Waco).

The ESPN pregame prediction favors Baylor (boo! Hiss!) to win 69.1% of the time, with a spread of 3 favoring the other guys. :(

CorpusJayhawk’s DPPI has a 5.7 spread for the other guys.

Bobby Pettiford has had season ending surgery to his abdominal injury. No mention of a medical redshirt, and he and KU would have to apply for one as an exception. KUSports.com – Tait: Kansas freshman Bobby Pettiford has season-ending surgery

Remy is still questionable. In Friday’s Pettiford story Tait wrote “A timetable for Martin’s return remains up in the air, but Self has said that the Arizona State transfer who opened the season in KU’s starting lineup has practiced several times during the past week.”

Here’s more on Remy and Big Dave’s status from Thursday’s Tait article. Dave going is almost a must, but with Bobby out having Remy back for even limited minutes would be great – IF he is ready!
KUSports.com – Tait: KU’s David McCormack battling sore foot, Remy Martin still tracking toward a return

REGARDLESS of who suits up, here's to our Jayhawks beating the oddsmakers and computer models and making that Magic Number shrink from 2 to 1 with a Victory on the Brazos!

My friend the Hoops Doctor said “‘Hawks know what to do,
Head south to old Fort Worth and take down TCU.
The Frogs are tough at home, but KU will come through!”

And he said “Rock Chalk! KU Hawks!
Play hard, bring a win back home now!
Rock Chalk! Walk the talk and bring that W home!”

The Frogs are tough at home, just took down Texas Tech.
Jamie’s got them playing well, it’s going to be a test.
But KANSAS will come through there as befits the very best!

And he said “Rock Chalk! KU Hawks!
Play smart, bring energy and fight!
Rock Chalk! KU Hawks! Win again on this…”

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Our #6 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (23-5, 12-3 Big 12) obviously did not “get it” against #3 Baylor on Saturday and are mathematically tied with the Bears for the Big 12 lead, but have the edge by being one game ahead in the L column. KU needs to win its next 3 games for sole possession of the Big 12 title, a loss leading to at best a tie with the Bears (barring Iowa State pulling off a miracle in Waco on Saturday!). And its a fact that our Crimson & Blue birds have laid an 0-3 goose egg in the state of Texas so far this season. But on Tuesday night they’ll gut it out against a Jamie Dixon tough TCU team (18-9, 7-8 ) in old Fort Worth for their only victory to date in the Lone Star state this season.

TCU is 2-1 in its last 3 games (including that Fort Worth win over Tech on Saturday!) and 3-4 in its last 4 home games. But KANSAS under Bill Self is 107-15 following a loss, and 54-6 after a loss since the AY2012-13 season. I like our chances!

All I can say for Thursday's game is this:

KU needs to win its last two games of the season, both at home, to earn a share of the Big 12 title.
If the same two teams that played Tuesday show up Thursday in AFH, it ain't gonna happen.

Having said that, here's hoping for one helluva KU...

Longhorns in The Phog!
The SENIOR GAME and the 38 game winning streak!
The LAST regular season game, period, and a win means at least a share of KU's 20th Big 12 title in 26 Big 12 seasons, and an NCAA best 63rd conference title in program history.

It's KANSAS Men's Basketball on another…

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!

Our #6/7 Jayhawks (24-6, 13-4) host the #21 Longhorns of The University of Texas (21-9, 10-7) in game 2 of this season's round robin, with the 'Horns looking to do what no other conference team has done this year - (1) beat the Jayhawks in The Phog and (2) complete the in-season sweep of our Jayhawks! AND of course, the 'Horns will try to do what no conference team has done since Nebraska in 1983 -- win in The House That Phog Built in the last KANSAS home game of of the season.

KANSAS will say farewell to 6 "Seniors" this time around - super seniors Mitch, Chris, JCL and Remy and seniors Ochai and Big Dave..

KANSAS and Baylor are atop the conference standings at 13-4 apiece.
Baylor hosts Iowa State (5 PM ESPN2) and is heavily favored to win its game (87% likelihood per asteroid's projections) -- but you can bet they will be following the KANSAS game (again, 3 PM ESPN) very closely.

If both KU and BU win, they share the title.

If only one wins and the other loses, the winner is alone in first and the loser likely tied for second with Texas Tech, who plays at Oklahoma State on Saturday starting at 2:00 (TT winning likelihood 64% per asteroid).

If both lose and Tech wins, it's a three way co-championship.
If all three lose it's KU and BU co-champions and TT all alone in 3rd place.

And did I mention that KANSAS 38 game winning streak in the last home game of the season?
I did...
Okay, I just mentioned it again,
(Fingers crossed! Fingers Crossed! FINGERS CROSSED!)

After Saturday it is on to the Big 12 Tournament next week and the start of the 2022 NCAA postseason. It would be great to go to Kansas City on a winning streak, having won the 39th straight SENIOR GAME and once again Big 12 regular season Champions!
KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES 35-12
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse)	18-2 (16-2) Won 2 games in Lawrence in 1940
Austin, Texas (Erwin Center) 11-9 (10-8) Split 2 games in Austin in 1938
Neutral Sites 6-1 includes an NCAAT W (Manhattan, KS) 1960

It's TCU again, my friends, 3rd time in 11 days.
Both teams are playing strong, should be an excellent game!
The rubber match is here and the winner earns the right
to play for the Big 12 Golden Ticket -- let's have another KANSAS...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Our 1 seed KANSAS JAYHAWKS (26-6, 14-4) look to take the rubber game this season against the 5 seed TCU Horned Frogs (20-11, 8-10).

Since TCU joined the Big 12 for the AY2012-13 season, the two teams have met just 2 times in the B12T, TCU losing under Trent Johnson in 2015 and winning under Jamie Dixon in 2017. TCU has never won the B12T. THIS TCU team is capable of taking it all. It's up to KANSAS to gig them Frogs and send 'em packing!
KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES, 23-3
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse)	11-0 (11-0)
Fort Worth, Texas (Schollmaier Arena) 9-2 (9-2; building renovated & renamed for AY2014-2015 season)
Neutral Sites (all KCMO) 3-1 (2-0 1952 Municipal NCAAT & 1997 Kemper)
Big 12 Play 19-3
Big 12 Championship (Sprint Center) 1-1 (1-1) (TCU 0-1 w/Trent Johnson 2015, 1-0 w/J. Dixon 2017)

COACHING RECORDS
Bill Self vs. TCU
Total 27-6
At Kansas 19-3
Jamie Dixon vs. Kansas
Total 2-10
At TCU 2-10

5:00 PM CT on ESPN2
Game voices for ESPN2 will be Jon Sciambi (play-by-play) and Fran Fraschilla (analyst).

And you can listen to the Crimson & Blue Show starting at 5:30 PM CT, with game coverage starting at 6:00 and bringing the postgame talk about the Big Win (fingers crossed!) at the link as well!

The ESPN pregame prediction favors KANSAS to win 87.5% of the time, with a spread of 8 favoring the JAYHAWKS!!

CorpusJayhawk’s DPPI has a 6.4 spread favoring KANSAS to win 70.9% of the time.

I like all those models results, but I have a feeling this is going to be a nail biter.

I incorrectly posted the channel as ESPN.

It is ESPN2.

I have corrected the previous post.
