Riffed on the lyrics for "Stephen F. Austin"...

Jacks fight! Jacks Fight!
And its goodbye to all their foes!
Jacks fight! Jacks fight!
As it’s northward here they go!
Jacks fight! Jacks fight!
They hope to win alright,
But alas they’re in The Phog and it's another...

Saturday night our beloved Jayhawks (8-1) host the Lumberjacks (8-3) of Stephen F. Austin University, located in Nacogdoches, TX, roughly 600 miles due south of Lawrence. The Jacks are coached by former KANSAS staffer and long time Self friend Kyle Keller, in his 6th year as the Jacks head coach after replacing Brad Underwood in 2016.

This is the first meeting between the two programs. In addition to Keller, there is another KU friendly face with the Jacks. Sophomore G Latrell Jossell will be playing in his first game in The Phog since transferring to SFA after last season with the Jayhawks!

Tues-day, climbing high

Journeying west to the fray
Jayhawks come to play

The CU fan base they pray
Things will go their way…

Boulder, home of the Buffs

Tad Boyle’s been teaching them well
Playing tough, playing right

Win 2 against KU the goal
on another…

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Tuesday night our beloved Jayhawks (9-1, #7/7) visit the friendly confines of Allen Field House West (aka the CU Events Center) to play the 9-3 Buffaloes of Colorado University, roughly 600 miles due west of and 4900 feet higher than good ol' KU. You will recall that the Buffs are coached by former KANSAS starting guard and team captain Tad Boyle (1981-85, for both Ted Owens and Larry Brown), now in his 12th season as the head coach at CU.

The record over the years is heavily in KU's favor.
124-40 all -time
19-1 during Self's tenure
2-1 since CU left the Big 12 in 2011
1-5 Boyle's CU record against KU (sole Boyle CU win against Self was 2013-12-07@CU: CU 75 KU 72)

8 PM CT on ESPN2
Game voices for ESPN2 will be Dave Pasch (play-by-play) and Bill Walton (analyst).
The Jayhawk Network Radio crew will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst).
Jayhawk Game Day Live coverage with Dave Stewart and Jeff Gueldner starts at 6:30 CT according to the ESPN+, but it may not be until 7:30 given the later than usual start. Post game JGDL coverage on ESPN+ streams after the game.

DON'T FORGET that you can listen to the home crew on kuathletics.leanplayer.com/ .
And you can listen to the Crimson & Blue Show pregame (6:30? PM CT) and postgame shows at the link as well!

The ESPN pregame prediction favors KU to win 84.4% of the time. The spread seems to be around 10.5 points in KU's favor.

Nevada replaces Harvard tonight and George Mason will take TCU's Saturday game & time slot.

NOTE WELL that with TCU being postponed instead of cancelled, George Mason is effectively replacing the canceled CU game from last Saturday, returning the current KU schedule to 31 games again -- at least for now.

And as Corpus noted in his post, the replacement games are marginally better for the KU SOS than the original ones.

Sow's ears creating the possibility for silk purses -- assuming KANSAS wins, of course!

A short time from now, in a conference not so far away...

It's a trap!

Traveling through conference space ain't like dusting crops, farm boy!

I have a bad feeling about this!
We seem to be made to suffer, it's our lot in life.
We're doomed!

I find your lack of faith ... disturbing...
Let's keep a little optimism here.

Is that even possible?

Fear is the path to the loss column.
Confronting fear is the destiny of a Jayhawk. Your destiny.

I won't fail you! I'm not afraid!
You'll find I'm full of surprises.

May the Phog be with you (even though far away) on another...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Our Jayhawks put the program's current 30 game conference opening win streak (Ws starting in 1991!) on the line on the road at HCBS' alma mater, always a trap game for KANSAS (as CorpusJayhawk pointed out yesterday!!) Self's Jayhawks are just 6-8 in GIA, losing there again last season. But KANSAS has swept the season series as recently as 2020, so let's put on our positive power caps and use the Force to help our heroes win the day tonight!

KANSAS leads the series 119-60. From page 35 of the KUAD pregame Notes
KANSAS LEADS, 119-60
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse) . . . . . . . . 65-12 (49-10)
Stillwater, Okla. (Gallagher-Iba Arena) . . . . . 38-36 (36-36)
Neutral Sites . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 16-12
Big 12 Play . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 24-11
Big 12 Championship (Sprint Center) . . . . . . . 6-2 (3-0)
Observant readers will note that the KUAD GIA #s (36-36) do not agree with Corpus' (35-36).
(CJ?)
In the last 10 meetings KU is 7-3 against the Cowboys (per OKState.com). (8-3 KU 2017 through 2021, 3-2 in GIA during that period).

8 PM CT on ESPN2
Game voices for ESPN2 will be Mark Neely (play-by-play) and Chris Spatola.
The Jayhawk Network Radio crew will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst).
Jayhawk Game Day Live coverage with Dave Stewart and Jeff Gueldner starts at 7:30 CT, with post game JGDL coverage on ESPN+ after the game.

DON'T FORGET that you can listen to the home crew on kuathletics.leanplayer.com/ .
And you can listen to the Crimson & Blue Show pregame (7:30 PM CT) and postgame at the link as well!

The ESPN pregame prediction favors KU to win 67.5% of the time. The spread: 6.5 points in KU's favor.

What is it with the ball team (ball team) known as the Mountaineers?
From West Virginny they come to play
our Jayhawks on another…

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!

Our #9/10 Jayhawks (13-2, 2-1) must once again gather the energy from a Phog Allen crowd to do all they can to ensure another AFH victory over the unranked WVU Mountaineers (13-2, 2-1) of Bob “Huggy Bear” Huggins.

KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES, 15-6
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse) . . . . . . . 9-0 (9-0)
Morgantown, W.Va. (WVU Coliseum) . . . . . . . 3-6 (3-6)
Neutral Sites . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3-0
Big 12 Play . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12-6
Big 12 Championship (Sprint Center) . . . . . . 3-0 (3-0)

1 PM CT on CBS. Game voices for CBS will be Spero Dedes (play-by-play) and Bill Raftery (analyst).

Jayhawk Game Day Live coverage with Dave Stewart and Jeff Gueldner starts at 11:05 AM CT according to the ESPN+ schedule, with post game JGDL coverage on ESPN+ after the game. I’m surprised at such an early start, leading me to believe that time posting may be wrong, but for now that’s what is being shown.

Sooner or Jayhawk
Someone's gonna win.
Sooner or Jayhawk
at Lloyd Noble in Norman.
Sooner or Jayhawk
Gonna be a big fight
Sooner or Jayhawk
on another...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Our Big 12 leading #7 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (14-2, 3-1) travel south to play what could possibly be their last conference game in Lloyd Noble Center against the unranked Sooners (12-5, 2-3). One game note of interest is a return engagement with the Tanner brothers, both having transferred from Eastern Washington to OU since we last saw them in the NCAA Tournament. Also of interest is former Loyola-Chicago head coach Porter Moser steering the program at OU with the retirement of former OU head coach (2011-2021) -- and KState Wildcat player (1971-74) and later head coach (1986-1990) -- Lon Kruger. (Farewell, Lon, it was nice knowing you!!!)
KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES, 152-69
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse) . . . . . . . . . 78-16 (51-7)
Norman, Okla. (Lloyd Noble Center). . . . . . . . . 53-45 (20-20)
Neutral Sites . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 20-8
Big 12 Play . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28-6
Big 12 Championship (Sprint Center) . . . . . . . . 3-2 (1-0)
Here's to our Jayhawks winning Tuesday to keep their perch atop the Big 12 and to possibly leave Lloyd Noble for the last time with a winning record instead of a losing one!
(As far as I know OUt won't be leaving for at least two more years, and I have heard/read nothing to indicate otherwise, but I would not be at all surprised if they are gone before Fall 2022. No prediction, just no trust - HE)

6 PM CT on ESPN
Game voices for ESPN will be Jon Sciambi (play-by-play) and Fran Fraschilla (analyst)
The Jayhawk Network Radio crew will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst).
Jayhawk Game Day Live coverage on ESPN+ with Dave Stewart and Jeff Gueldner starts at 5:30 CT, with post game JGDL coverage on after the game.

DON'T FORGET that you can listen to the home crew on kuathletics.leanplayer.com/ .
And you can listen to the Crimson & Blue Show pregame (5:30 PM CT) and postgame at the link as well!

Sad day, the sources report today,
Bill Senior went over the hill they say.
Our lads bow their heads in respect for Bill's dead
But the game will go on and our lads will be strong
as the Hawks head out west for another…

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!

The thrill of traveling to Manhattan for another chance to beat the Wildcats is a bit subdued as our lads support Bill Junior in the first game after the loss of his father. Our #7 Jayhawks (15-2, 4-1) play last place but problematic unranked KState (10-7, 2-4), who beat Texas Tech in Manhattan and tu in Austin in their last two games.

Red Raiders coming to the Phog and
seems they have a sweep in sight.
The Phog crowd and the home team
say "Not in Our House!" on this...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

Our Big 12 leading #5 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (16-2, 5-1) host the only Big 12 team to hand them a loss so far this year, the #13/14 Red Raiders of Texas Tech (15-4, 5-2). Only once in Bill Self's tenure has a conference team swept the regular season head-to-heads (tu just last season), and you can bet the Jayhawks are looking to make sure that does not happen this season!
KANSAS LEADS THE SERIES, 39-7
Lawrence, Kan. (Allen Fieldhouse) . . . . . . . . . . . . 20-1 (20-1)
Lubbock, Texas (United Supermarkets Arena) . . . . . . . .16-6 (12-5)
Neutral Sites . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3-0
Big 12 Play . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 30-7
Big 12 Championship (Sprint Center) . . . . . . . . . . . 3-0 (2-0)

Here's to our Jayhawks winning tonight to keep their perch atop the Big 12 and to avenge that miserable loss in Lubbock earlier this season!

AND -- for Bill Self to earn total career win #746, which will tie him with the great Phog Allen on the total wins list!
