Searching for more info beyond this tweet.

Apparently it is a rolling 5-year contract with one year added at the completion of every year until he retires (or leaves) This gives a bit of security to both KU and to Self. Seems like a smart deal given that Self sure seems like the kind of guy that would step aside if he ever felt he was no longer up to the task. It protects Self from being let go for anything other than cause with a guaranteed defined payout based on the existing 5-year contract. It protects Kansas providing a pretty hefty buyout if Self ever wanted to leave, again, based on a 5 year contract buyout. I don't think Self will make any more money but what this contract rally does more than anything is it sends a very strong message to the world that Self and KU are married and committed and are willing to provide each other guarantees to that effect. This should surely help recruiting incrementally.

Among the many reasons for being happy to be KU fans, this is one illustrated firmly. KU is not just about excellence in winning, we are excellence in building a culture of caring and commitment. 8 head coaches in 120+ years is unheard of. Kentucky has had 22 HC and 6 since 1972. KU has had 4 since 1972. The stability of KU basketball is a wonderful thing (football...not so much)

This is a link to a PDF copy of the contract extension..

Theoretically, if you include bonuses, private jet allowance, memberships, reimbursable expenses, HBCS is at north of $8M annually.

Full text in chronological order...

I frankly have never seen anything like this in middle of a major infractions case. The day before Final Four a message to every recruit in the country-Bill Self is a lifetime coach, won't be fired over current allegations. A message 2 Indy. This arguably is cbkb news o' the day.

KU could have done this next week. KU could have waited until it had an AD. This was strategic, hijacking a news cycle. Every preview show in the country now has to mention Bill Self's contract at the exact moment players are shooting around at Final Four.

Begrudgingly admitted admiration for the move, especially its timing.
