Time for some NCAA Info

This is the 82nd year for the NCAA Tourney. It began in 1939 as an 8 team field. It stayed at 8 teams until 1950. In 1951 it expanded to 16 teams. Then it expanded in fits and spurts. For instance, in 1953 it had a 22 team field. In 1954 it was a 24 team field. In 1956 it was 26 teams. In that fateful 1957 it was only 23 teams. So it was sort of haphazard field until 1975 when it went to 32 teams. It expanded further to 40 teams in 1979 then creeps up to ultimately 64 teams in 1985. Then in 2001 they added a play in game for a field of 65. Then in 2011 it was expanded to the current 68 teams.

So last season was the 81st year. Now here is something that might be surprising. Only 1 team has been to more than half of the 81 tourneys and that is Kentucky at 45. Only 5 teams have been to at least 30. They are:

There have been 3436 total games in the NCAA Tourney. Only 4 teams have played in at least 150. They are:

Something does not jive with Tourney Appearances...KU has appeared the NCAA T more that 31 times, heck we have a 30 year streak going. Am I missing something?

Geez louise. I just pulled up my spreadsheet from last April and started pulling data. I failed to reset the pivot tables from when I was obviously messing around with it at the end of last year. Sorry about that. I should have realized that 31 was bogus. Wasn't even thinking obviously. Here are the total appearances.

Thanks Corpus. I just can’t stand Puke being on these lists, I just really don’t like them one iota. It takes every fiber in my body to say a positive thing about puke... their smug arrogance starting with Coach Alphabet that passed on to the likes of Snyder, Danny Ferry, Lattenar, Parks, Wojo, etc is why I despise them.
