Let's get something out of the way, right off the bat:
I HATE THESE EARLY TIPS.
Number 3 versus Number 4, right? Well, that's what the human pollsters
think. The computers mostly say something else. Only Dunkel, Colley,
and ESPN's BPI have Kansas that low or lower, but Dunkel and Colley
haven't updated their rankings recently. I think Dunkel does so only
weekly, and Colley's numbers are the same as for the Round 2 games, so
those results haven't been taken into account. As for Baylor, only
Seven Overtimes has the Bears that high. Dunkel has them as low as
Number 20, while the LRMC has them at Number 18. In particular,
Sagarin Predictor has them at Number 14, which gives Kansas a rather
comfortable 8.9 point margin, more than for next week's game in Norman
against a considerably weaker Oklahoma team. The home court advantage
is clearly at work here.
A home win is especially important for the Jayhawks given that Baylor
is a contender. The lead in the projected conference race is just under
3 games for the Jayhawks, but with an 85 percent chance of winning, a
loss would mean that the Bears would gain 1.7 wins, plus whatever the
revised ratings would cause.
Baylor is the Big 12's most consistent team. Other than their opener
against Central Arkansas, Baylor has played all their games within 9 points
of expectation. Indeed, that game against Central Arkansas is the only
time they've played above expectation by enough to overcome a 8.9 point
predicted margin. And Kansas has yet to play more than 6 points below
expectation, so losing would set a new season record for futility.
With tip-off less than an hour away, let's tie this summary off right now
and get it posted.

Here is Kansas' season, for which the projected record is now 26-5, despite the
fact that there are no projected losses. Toughest game would be the road game
with West Virginia, followed closely by the road game with Baylor.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
Know you hate the early tips, asteroid (one of the few banes of living in paradise), and appreciate you getting this posted before the game starts!
With improved TV coverage and now streaming, I'm wondering if any KU fans still get together in one of the sports bars in Honolulu for these early games as we used to in the early 2000s?

If they do, I'm not aware of it. Ever since I got a big flat screen at home and services that allow me to see all the games at home, I haven't had as much motivation to fight the parking hassles in Waikiki to link up with other alumni at Giovanni Pastrami.
Before that, we met at the watering hole in Puck's Alley, but that closed a long time ago, which forced the relocation to Waikiki. A couple of games were watched from downtown, but that also has parking issues.
